I had sat my iPad mini 2 down after using it off and on all day...no big deal! The next day the screen was blank and it would not turn on no matter what. I was about to make an appointment to bring it back (it's barely a month old) when I tried holding both on/off and home button together...and about 14 seconds later it turned on. I can't believe it...your advice truly worked thank you so much!

Was Away on holiday when my screen went black and ipad2 wouldn't switch back on even though fully charged,with another week to go I thought I would have to wait until I got back to the uk & an Apple Shop expense but even though it sounded ridiculous I took the advice I found in the post that told me to turn the iPad over and give the "Apple" logo in the centre a slap with the palm of my hand. Wow! I can't believe it worked but it did,thank you for the tip although I don't know how you would find out this method of solving the problem but I am eternally grateful.

ps I would recommend you place the screen on something soft like a bed or towel before slapping the "Apple" logo so it doesn't damage the screen.Good Luck

I tried "hitting the Apple logo" as many posts commented on but with no success. Mcsan2 mentioned that hitting near the corner resulted in the screen momentarily flickering to life. I then tried hitting the back of the iPad closer to the connector and amazingly the screen came back to life. Needless to say I was delighted!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! My daughter dropped the iPad (in a "military-grade" case) less than 18" & the screen went black. It would "light-up" when the home button was pressed, but was still completely black. After trying all other (less-invasive) ideas I could find, I finally took off the case, hit the apple, and it came right on!!!! AMAZING!!!! Thanks for sharing this tip!

What you do is look at the logo for a while. Then touch the screen. Your desktop comes back. Swipe to unlock. Everything goes back to normal. But holding down the power and home button at the same time for 10 seconds is the best suggestion for when the screen goes black.

Also worked for me - whacking the back of the ipad. But next time will try plugging in to my computer first. Concerned that whacking the ipad could result in an unintended consequence. Very happy this worked and very weird how/when it happened. I was not doing anything with the ipad at the time.
