Time Capsule and IPv6.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone succeeded in configuring their TC to support IPv6 natively? So no tunnelling, but native v6 from your provider. I've been trying just about anything but can't get it to work.

Any ideas? To be sure I use a Draytek Vigor 120 modem with IPv6 firmware and the TC is configured to route PPPoE from the Draytek.

My ISP supports IPv6. I have a Draytek Vigor 120 set up with IPv6 firmware. It translates the ADSL PPPoA to PPPoE. I feed that into a Time Capsule 2 TB. (Dual band II) running 7.5.2 and set up as a router for v4 and v6.
I'm afraid I get no IPv6 connection:

MBP15:~ x$ ping6 -n www.xs4all.nl
ping6: UDP connect: No route to host
MBP15:~ x$

What could be wrong? I'm sure the ISP does IPv6 as other users got it operational using other routers.

After I downloaded the latest iTunes a couple of days ago, I found that iTunes would not connect any longer to my two Airport Expresses.

In looking around the support forums (I am too stiff-necked to pay Apple $49 to help me sort out a problem caused by their new version of iTunes), it has become clear to me that the problem *may* trace back to this iPv6, which I vaguely understand (from the Wikipedia article).

But I am just a user. I don't quite get the details of the discussions above. All I'd like to figure out is how to configure my older Time Capsule and Airport Expresses so that they resume connecting. (I have another program that let's me send music out to the AXs, so I can currently work around iTunes, but I'd rather have all the Apple stuff set up on my iMac (Snow Leopard) properly, if possible.

Can anyone get me to the bottom line here in simpler language?

BTW, all my devices are currently set up for IPv6 as "link local". What is that? What is tunnel? Perhaps I should set the TC as host, but then what do I do with two AXs? I had one **** of a time configuring the AXs back when. I sure hate to mess with them.

I have no idea what my provider has done in terms of IPv6, but it's Telus. My impression is that they have been a bit behindhand on the technology, but they are catching up.

If you set up all devices for IPv6 as Link local you should not experience trouble using IPv6. It simply means these deivces will communicate using v6 locally. I think our five Expresses do so all the time.

Did you change anything at all on the TC? Upgrading iTunes should not change the airplay functionality of iTunes or your computer, so there must be something else.

One issue that has me worried is that some routers do not support ipv6. Whether they can or will be firmware upgraded or not is unknown.

Does the 4th gen Time Capsule support it when it will be needed? I don't have one, but a friend of mine that I do a lot of tech support just bought one on my suggestion with his new Macbook.

I have a netgear router and I can't find any information if it is ipv6 capaple or not, or if it will be upgradeable. That really doesn't apply to this thread, but it is an example how difficult it can be to get that information. Netgear generally has good service.

It works fine with my 2nd Gen AEBS so I should think all Time Capsules are fully supported. The only problem I've heard about is with ISP's that require PPPoE.

You can go to this site and learn a lot about your setup http://test-ipv6.com/
