Why are my notes showing up in Mail as "messages"????

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. The only issue I seem to be having is that my notes which reside in the Mail program on my laptop are duplicated and show up in my Inbox as email messages. If I move them or delete them, all of the entries in my "Notes" file also are deleted. Can someone help me, please? As a side note, I also sync notes with my iPhone and the notes do note show up in my mail program on my iPhone. The notes on my iPhone appear just fine. The notes also do not show up in my mail folder on MobileMe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
