Shift key appears to be constantly engaged

Everything I type on the keyboard is in all capital letters or symbols like the shift key is constantly on. Nothing like water or anything that I know of has spilled onto the keyboard. I left it on over the night on the nightstand and the next morning the problem appeared. I can connect a mac keyboard and everything is fine. The computer boots into safe mode and from what I understand, this happens when the shift key is pressed on boot up. This is what makes me pretty sure something is going on with the shift key component. Unfortunately, I am just outside of my 1 year warranty since I got my laptop last Christmas. As if this laptop is not expensive enough without needing an extended warranty, seems like this would be a genuine warranty issue but alas no extended warranty. Any suggestions? i am not worried about opening up the machine to take a peak inside since it is already out of the 1 year warranty. Anyone else, other than the guy who spilled water on the keyboard, having this issue? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Otherwise this will become an expensive paper weight since it will not function as a laptop anymore.

Thanks ARReflections for the clarification on your above statement. I miss read what you where trying to convey.

Agreed of coarse with eww assessment.

Don't rule out the problem shift key is the one you do not use regularly. Independent of cleaning under the key (DIY compressed air, removing the key cap for cleaning, etc) well could be narrowed down to the microswitch.

Depending on how far past warranty there is always the possibility it will still be honored as warranty repair, or fixed at the Genius Bar.

Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store, make a reservation

Thank you eww for your reply. I think you are right. Trust me if I thought it was the caplock key being stuck then I would not be posting this question in the first place. Basically with the laptop booting in to safe mode, things like volume and other functions are disabled. Does anyone know the cost associated with taking in for service? Anyone have experience. If it is an arm and a leg then I may just crack open the box myself. Thanks!

I just got a new keyboard cause the old one (wireless, plastic white) had "sticky" keys.. modifieres key would all of a sudden get "stuck".. and I had no clue why etc…

now I bought a brand new (wired) Apple keyboard. and guess what..

I still have sticky keys.. in German we use a lot of Capital letters.. and when I write a text like in this forum it definetely happens once that the shift key somehow seems to get stuck, though, pressing it again kind of "releases" it..

I am bit puzzled now, as it's a brand new keyobard…

ideas?
