No Service in Switzerland

My daughter is studying this semester in Geneva and is having a problem getting her iPhone 3GS to connect to a local carrier. Even though she is in an area with excellent cell phone coverage her phone displays "No Service." She claims all the students in her group with iPhones are having the same situation. The local carriers (Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom) all have roaming agreements with AT&T.

I had her re-boot the phone and confirm the following settings: Airplane Mode - Off; Enable 3G - On; Cellular Data - On; Data Roaming - Off. I'm not sure what else to tell her to try. She has used her phone in Europe previously and never had any problems, so this is a head-scratcher.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Good to hear all is well, I live between Genève and the UK, have no issues with the following carriers while in Switzerland,
1. Swisscom.
2. Orange.ch
3. Bouygues.

And SFR if we cross any boarder into France, if she finds problems again I would suggest she just go into the Apple store and connect to there WiFi network then ask for correct phone carrier settings re roaming to be corrected. Apple in Genève as really helpful, although the shop gets extremely busy.

As a foot note tell her to give Sunrise a miss if she can, it very unpredictable.
