MacBook Pro hinge creaking sound

Every time I open my Mid-2009 15-inch MacBook Pro's screen there is always a creaking sound coming from the hinge. I was wondering if this is normal? Has anyone experienced this issue before? If so did Apple repair it and at what price? Also my MacBook Pro warranty expires in late 2012 and I have never taken it to the Apple store for repair because there has never been an issue until now. Below is a video of issue. - Thanks

Can you do a check for me. Can you lightly press on the Aluminum case from the bottom and the top right near the touchpad. My MacBook pro makes a creaking sound too but it does not come from the hinge. I know I can move the screen back and forth and it will make the noise but the noise is not from hinge area it is from the aluminum casing near the track pad. I am wondering if yours is the same or different. I've complained on this and not received a response. Just placing your hands on the Al housing cause the noise or moving the screen produces this creaking noise for me. Thanks.

zoiks: Your problem is entirely different from the one this thread is about. Yours is caused, I believe, by a grounding contact between the chassis of the top case and the bottom pan — but never having seen the inside of your MBP model myself, I can't be more specific than that. I suggest taking the machine to a Genius Bar and having it opened up and inspected to see whether something can be done to silence the harmless but annoying creaking or grating sound.

The creaking noise I heard in your video sounds typical for a 'talking' MacBook Pro or MacBook. You've got two joints which aren't lubricated (and don't even think of getting out the 3 in 1 oil!) so it's going to sound off. If it doesn't get worse (and by worse I mean louder) don't worry about it. I think you'll find that it'll creak sometimes and other times it won't.

Hey, you seem to have taken down your video on youtube. Did you get this problem fixed?... I had a creaking noise in my new MBP 13" 2011 model. No noise when moving the screen in motion, but if the screen needed adjusting, it sounds like its catching slightly and I hear a soft creak.

I closed the macbook and looked at the clutch, the gap on either side between the black plastic and the aluminium wasn't even, I gently pushed my fingernail down one side and it moved a fraction. Now no noises!

Might have been catching on one side, or moving it slightly pushed lubricant inside the clutch joint. Anyway, good luck with yours.
