So, for the #th (can't remember the count) time being on the phone with apple adviser the current story is this: the adviser was on the chat with iTunes (as I was hangin on the phone). They had come to the conclusion that the issue is with iTunes as the App Store, under the hood, communicates with iTunes and some thing has gone wrong with that in 10.6.8. So now after re-looking through my case (and system) logs, they are saying that it is an 'App Store' issue. iTunes have opened a case for/against App Store and I have to wait till Wednesday COB EST the latest to hear any thing back. 😀

I was given the following link by Apple; which I have tried numerous times before with many different varioations. The result is: it did not work for 10.6.8 and Lion, for me. Every thing works in 10.6.6 and 10.6.7. Another words I have installed 10.6.3 from my Snow Lepeord Disk then combo update to 10.6.6 and 10.6.7. Every thing worked. Update to 10.6.8 and/or Lion: same problem with App Store.

So, it's upto the engineers to figure out the issue.

Another thing, I felt kind of irritated by it, The last (Junior) Adviser told me, before he patched me to a Senior Adviser, that this problem with App Store is only occurring with "minority" group of people. "Majority" people do not have this problem. Hearing him saying that was pretty comical to me but don't mean to vent, not worth my time, but I thought I'd share my experience.

i fixed my login problem with the mac app store and facetime. don't know if this will help anyone else, but here is my experience.

after installing 10.7.1, i deleted networkpreferences.plist, restarted, then looked at the network preferences panel. the airport icon was labeled ethernet, and the ethernet icon was labeled airport. at some point in the past, i used the 'set service order' option to place ethernet ahead of airport. clearly this caused a problem.

here's what worked:

1. renamed the airport and ethernet services to match the icons,

2. made sure the service order listed airport ahead of ethernet,

3. hit apply,

4. deleted networkpreferences.plist again,

5. unplugged ethernet,

6. restarted.

using only airport, i was able to login to the mac app store and facetime. i plugged in ethernet and both still worked.

I have the same problem: "Your device or computer could not be verified. Please contact support for assistance." I, too have tried the deleting etc.plist, but like everyone else on this post it only worked for me with 10.6.6 and now that I have "upgraded" to 10.6.8 that deleting the .plist solution no longer works for me. I do not know how to do the first two steps you mention (@armanilawsuit), but maybe you could give me some more insight.

My problem has been ongoing for 2 1/2 weeks.
