Copying music from NAS to library/devices

Hi,

I set-up my MyBookWorld NAS as my main music hub and iTunes can see it and play music from it. However, if I want to drag and drop music from the NAS to my local library, iTunes won't allow it. I plan to purchase an iPhone from Verizon and I am assuming I will have the same problem so if anyone has any solutions please share.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and set your iTunes Media folder location to the NAS. Then, new files that you rip or purchase will go directly to the NAS and simultaneously be added to your iTunes library, with no extra manual step.

Anyway to keep the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder from coming back up after deletion?

Also I did setup my NAS device as the library location under preferences, but nothing was added to the library. I still had to add to library manually, no big deal but will it refresh when I add something new? According to our discussion, it should but now I am not so sure.

I just reread your last post so I would like to point that I would not very purchasing or ripping very often. I would be mainly adding to the NAS in Finder. So again, will it update the library automatically or will I have to add to library again? if that is the case, do you know a better solution?

If you add your new files to the Automatically Add folder, iTunes will immediately move them to the designated iTunes Media folder, which as previously suggested can be directed to the NAS.

For testing purposes I tried deleting files from the NAS device to see if iTunes would update the library automatically and it didn't. The files showed up and when I clicked on them iTunes could not reference them just like I suspected. I am not really fond on the way iTunes handles NAS devices and their own devices after doing testing these couple of days. Does anyone know a DYNAMIC way of streaming music from a NAS that also allows for the file to be copied to a device like an iPhone?

Just ignore that last post. I'll just add to library anything that I want to put in my future iPhone and continue to play whatever I want through the Shared pane. It'll have to do.

I had similar issues, copied all my music to a nas, a wd my book live 2tb, initially itunes saw the music in its shared section, i could play it, but that was it. There was a copy choice from a right click context menu, but I could never figure out where the song got pasted....The only way i could do anything with the music was to use the file/add to library, then after i started moving files and deleting files in the shared drive it stopped being accessible in itunes?? Still haven't figured that one out yet....

Anyway, now disabled network sharing and going from there..
