FaceTime Video Voicemail?

Curious if anyone has thought up something like this? Like a recorded video of yourself saying 'hi, leave a video voicemail'. I noticed that FaceTime rings and rings until someone decides to hang up and there isn't even a regular voicemail option.

Thoughts?

The kind of "jailbreak" that is done on iPhone voids AppleCare service and warranty. I have never heard of "jailbreak" in context of Mac or in iChat and iChat sharing where you posted your topic.

I do not think that either use could let you add your suggested new feature to FaceTime.

Feedback to Apple is your best bet unless you can write your own app that adds this feature to the software.

Appreciate the response though!

You're welcome.

Your idea could be a useful feature.

You can send feedback directly to Apple by either the:

  • FaceTime > Provide FaceTime Feedback... menu item

    - or -

You will not get a response in either case, but you can be certain that the responsible Apple

people will see your input for consideration in FaceTime product development.

Hi,

Late to the party.

This was apparently tried in a Pre-release of the Leopard version of iChat but did not make it to the full release.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=683473

There seems to be no suggestions why it was stopped. (or even passed over to FaceTime).

Part of the issues may have deciding on the length of time allocated to the incoming "Voice Mail" which would in fact also be stored on the iPhone or Mac.

Storing the Video Messages Created at server level would be a whole new ball game and move Apple closer to being a full on Carrier.

Hi,

These Discussions are User to User in the main.

There are two exceptions:-

Hosts (moderators) who move Posts that are deemed to break the rules to places where the public cannot read them (they are never deleted).

Community Specialists who are supposed to pick up Posts that have not replies after they drop of the "front" page of a community. In an "average" forum that is about 24 hours after the initial post. However in fast moving areas in can be less.

Rather than posting direct answers they post links and quotes to Knowledge Base Documents.

Feedback starts here http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Messages has a specific page from there http://www.apple.com/feedback/messages.html

Although not listed on the main feedback page there is also one fro iChat (messages Predecessor) http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html

There does not appear to be a FaceTime one.

I'm glad I'm not the only person wondering about this. Why hasn't apple added it as a feature yet? We can send recorded video messages to each other via MMS, why not add it facetime? We should be able to setup a 10-15 second outgoing video in case me miss a facetime call or decide not to answer it, and then the caller should be able to record a 15-25 second responce.

COME ON APPLE!! Quit d*cking around with Siri and get on this.

Hi,

What FaceTime can do. Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Leaving any sort of Message does not appear to one of the features.
