Is my macbook worth anything with a broken logic board?

Hi

Bout 5 years ago, I bought a re-furbished black macbook directly from Apple. I had the 3 year extended warranty.
Bout 6 months ago, it started acting funny. Being that the warranty was done, I still brought it to the Genius Bar for a diagnosis, in which they told me the logic board was failing.

I could either get it fixed for about $600 bux, or I could upgrade. I had been meaning to upgrade anyways, so I put the $600 I would have spent on repairs towards a new MacBook Pro.

So, now I have my old mac book, which powers up sometimes and other times does not. It does need to be plugged in to work...

Question, should I trash it, or is their some value in the parts still? Should I throw it up on ebay? Is there a market for it? I am sure some techie could whip it into shape and you have a perfect computer....

Just want to see what you guys think and if it is worth my time and effort to bring it back to facotry standards and put it out there for others?

I imagine the parts are worth something to somebody who repairs computers. Just the screen alone is something that needs repairing occasionally and is pretty expensive. Other things such as RAM and hard drive, optical drive, etc. Still, I don't know how much that is. Maybe look on e-bay and see if you see similar, or just take a chance on what you get. If you're into computers and selling things you could do it yourself but some just don't consider it worth the hassle. I've gotten rid of some old computers and just given them away, being happy I kept something out of the landfill a bit longer. Maybe somebody made $40 selling them but it saved me a trip and gas to the city dump.

If you know for sure what is wrong, somebody can factor that in when buying it. I bought a car once that had a problem, but we knew what it was, I was willing to accept that, and we factored in the repair + trouble into my purchase cost. If you're not sure then somebody is taking a gamble and probably won't pay as much.

Thanks for the advice..Ebay auction is gonna be swell.

I lost the recovery discs...How can i go about wiping the hardrive and restoring the black macbook?

You could wipe the hard drive in another Mac (or any computer for that matter) but I sell a lot of laptops on eBay and usually don't include the hard drive anyway. I sold a 2009 Macbook (the newer unibody model) that had liquid damage and dead logic board for $400 with no hard drive.
