Cant watch XVid movies

I watch videos online that play in the xvid format and since I got my new MacBook Pro it will not let me open them because I need the xvid codec and according to the website, it's not compatible with my computer. Through the help of google, I found this site: http://www.xvidmovies.com/mac/ and I followed the directions exactly. I have Quicktime 7, I downloaded DivX, and the XviD codec for mac os x, and dropped the correct file into the library/quicktime folder like it said. It still wont play the movies. I restarted quicktime and that did not work, then I restarted the whole computer too, just in case... still no luck. Any advice?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

I already have Perian, but now what? How do I use it exactly?

QuickTime Player will automatically use the codes in Perian when needed. There is a Perian pane in System Preferences to control a few functions.

Ok well it doesn't seem to work because I'm on the site where I want to stream. It's asking me to download the XviD codec which is not ready for Mac. 😟

The Perian settings doesn't show anything really. All I see is to remove it, update it, 2 audio options to choose from and a subtitle check box.

Ive tried VLC and DivX and installing a Xvid codec and nothing works for watching online movies. I have Perian too but im not sure how to use it for online movies/videos.....

Hi! I recently updated to a Macbook Pro and it seems I have the same problem as you. I've been looking everywhere for a solution but still nothing works. I've downloaded DivX and Perian, and neither of those work.

I noticed this post is from a couple of months ago, I wanted to ask if you have been able to find a way for watching online movies and videos?

i really want to buy macbook pro this week but im disappointed with all the comments because im always watching live streaming ,tv online so it means to say i cant watch pinoytvshows.org ,etc on macbook cause they are all divx and flash...... ???/? help .. buy or not to buy
