Loose touchpad makes annoying clicking noises

I have problem from the day I purchased my macbook air.
It is on the left hand side of the trackpad button. It sounds like a "Tick" noise! Sounds like something mechanically is loose in it.
It is very annoying.
(Just Touching the button, not executing it! makes the noise)

Just got back from purchasing a new MBA today & found out I have the same annoying clicking (tinny rattle) sound on the left hand side of my track pad (when I click on it). Some may consider this a small annoyance but for those of us who work in quiet enviroments its like nails on a chalkboard.

I will visit the Apple Store & see how they respond... hopefully it just needs tightening or a small adjustment. This is my first Apple computer after being a long time iPhone fan...

Ill let you know how it goes.

Here is my update from above.... Made an appointment with the genius bar & showed him the clicking noise & video in case he couldnt hear it in the active/noisy store. He said he will take a look & came back 10 minutes later to tell me that four of the screws inside were loose & the trackpad was misalligned (glass). Problem solved & Macbook Air is now working perfectly. Great service & support ;-)

I had clicking trackpad issue on my MBP with retina display. Accidentally touched the trackpad with a teaspoon with dense sticky jam when drinking tea. Stain was in the middle of trackpad, nothing got inside. Wiped it with a damp cloth with moderate (sticky jam) pressure - and thats it, no more clicking sound since then - for more than a month already.

I believe due to alternating horizontally applied force, slightly misaligned trackpad took the correct position.

Hope this will help someone.

I also have the same problem. I went with my MBP (2013) to the Apple store. They replaced the whole keyboard and touchpad. Three months later, the anoying noise is back. It seems to disappear when I press hard with my hand next to the touchpad, while touching the touchpad with my other hand. However, as soon as I lift the pressure near the touchpad, the noise comes back...

I had the same issue with my "late 2014" Macbook Pro. Just tapping the trackpad (or even dragging my finger across it) would make that annoying "tick" noise around the lower left hand corner.

I tried tightening the screws in the bottom case. I tried pressing down hard on the trackpad. Did not help a bit. Sometimes the noise would go away briefly however, conveniently enough when trying to demonstrate the problem at the store.

But I found a working solution!

Find a sheet of paper. Press the trackpad down into the clicking position, exposing a gap between it and the top case. Then simply insert the corner of the sheet of paper and pull it along the bottom edge of the trackpad once or twice. Done!

Not a permanent solution, but works every time. Guess it removes little pieces of dust or something.

I started getting this problem last month with my late 2013 rMBP. It would mostly happen when I use the computer on my lap, on a flat table it was OK. Took it to the store and go figure it doesn't really make any noise but it did feel a bit loose. The guy took it in the back and tried to tighten the screws inside, but he said the battery was in the way. He said it should be a bit better but it still felt a bit loose to me. He offered to replace the top case which includes trackpad, keyboard and battery. The work took two days and the computer feels like a new one, no more noise!
