Magic Mouse disconnecting frequently

Hi All,

I am getting seriously frustrated for the last couple of weeks. My Magic Mouse is disconnecting very frequently and this is becoming annoying. I checked everything, batteries, etc...everything is fine. and still facing the same issue again...
This is really boring.

thanks,
Paul

I had the disconnection problem with both rechargeble and alkaline batteries.

I managed to fix the latter with the following (from a poster on this site) -

1) Open Bluetooth Preferences
2) In the left hand window, select 'Apple Wireless Mouse'
3) Beneath the left hand window is a small gear wheel icon. With Apple Wireless mouse still selected, click on this and select 'Add to favourites".

This cured the problem for me as far as alkaline (non-rechargable) batteries are concerned but I still need a small amount of BlueTak on the battery compartment over each battery to stop them coming loose.

Rechargeable batteries are something else!! I gave up trying to get these to work. With these my Magic Mouse simply didn't light up at all. I assumed that as they were 1.2v not 1.5v that this was the problem.

Then I noticed that Apple Store was adiing people that they would work. I queried this elsewhere on this site and it's possible that they will work but for a small difference in the design of the cans at the + end.

I'm about to try the silver foil at the - end dodge that was mentioned earlier in this thread. If that works then I've got it sussed.

There are several possible causes to this. For me I tried all the tips suggested by Apple (checking for interference, resetting etc) and none of them worked. I also tried inserting foil behind the battery as some people have suggested and this worked intermittently. IMO the issue is often due to the batteries as people have suggested above however the advice given to me by Applecare was to look at the BRAND of battery. He asked if I was using Every Ready Super Heavy Duty and I was. This brand has a very small bump on the end of the + terminal and this causes contact problems.

My advice - try Energiser batteries. It fixed it straight away for me after months of problems.

Let me know if this helps.

I wonder if a small toolmakers or jewellers file (even a nail file?) could be used to gently file down that small bump so that your batteries could be used? I doubt if it would take much work but that might depend on how hard the metal is I suppose.

Just a few strokes maybe. The finer the file the better.

Just a thought.

Oh, one other thing. I find Duracells to be fine with my Magic Mouse.
