menu bar won't highlight and dock won't magnify

When I click on a menu bar item, it highlights blue but it won't move to highlight another item when I move the mouse courser. I have to hold the left click down to move down a submenu.

Also, the dock items do not magnify when I move the courser over them. I think these problems are related. What am I to do? This is annoying.

Thank you, thank you. I had the same problem, but with a Logitech USB mouse. I unplugged it and magnify started to work. After replugging, I think it still was working, but I updated the Logitech Control Center in System preferences to the latest level just in case.

Additional symptom: This OS X Lion mouse problem with a Logitech mouse also caused very strange mouse behavior when using a Windows virtual machine (VM) under Parallels Desktop Manager for Mac. Clicking on the mouse would cause windows, gadgets and icons to be moved around the windows desktop.

Once I got the OS X mouseover to work properly (including the Dock magnify/magnifier/magnification) the Parallels VM problem was also resolved. I think this was also causing problems with mouse handling in VMWare Fusion 4.
