URGENT! US/UK power adapter problem!!!!!!!

Hello User uploaded file
I got my iPad from new York in April last year, however it was exported to the UK. I have been using the power adapter which came with the American iPad but with a UK head on the top. It has now come to my attention that the US does not have 230 volt mains supply like the UK has, but instead America has 110 volts. This means that if there is a conventional transformer in the power supply, it will be made for the US power supply, meaning it will output like 18 volts in the US, however in the UK, the same input to output voltage ratio will be the same, meaning that whatever the US output voltage is, in the UK it will output double that, so in this example in the US it may output 18 volts for instance, but the same transformer plugged into the uk supply with output 36 volts. I am worried I have damaged my iPad by doing this, but I don't know how I can tell. Or maybe the transformer will have some electronics in to automatically adjust to the different power supply, I'm not entirely sure.
I sometimes use my real UK purchased UK power adapter to charge my iPad, however I've never noticed any difference (but I'm not entirely sure if it's the high wattage adapter, it seems to charge the iPad.)
Ok, long message but please let me know what to do!!!!!! User uploaded file

Relax. You have no problem at all. The charger is designed to work with 100V-240V, 50Hz or 60Hz and it WILL put out the correct voltage regardless of the input. In fact, it's marked that way although the marking is all but impossible to read (thanks to small font size and gray color on white background).

You can check the wattage on the other charger by reading the labeling (again, difficult to read). Some labels actually indicate wattage (10W is the good one) while others give current (2.3A is the good one). If you see anything less, it WILL charge the iPad but slowly. I don't know where you got the 18V figure from but ALL of the chargers put out at a 5V level.

I have one high-power charger (came with the iPad) and one low-power charger (1A producing 5W, came with an iPod). They look identical. Because of the difficulty reading the charger labels, I added my own paper labels.

Enjoy your iPad.

By the way, this is very common with today's electronics.

If it had not been working correctly, it would not have been working all this time.
If the transformer did not accept the correct voltage, it would smoke and quit working.
It would not send an incorrect voltage (correct voltage is 5vdc) to the iPad.
the transformer will have some electronics in to automatically adjust to the different power supply

it does.
Read the little sticker on the power supply and you will see it is 110-240 VAC input.

If all you want is the US version of the power head, I do not see that shown in the US Apple store so I doubt that they're available separately. All I can see is a kit which includes 6 different head styles (their "World Travel Adapter Kit").

If you're needing this for only a short visit over here, you're probably better off just finding a standard US/UK mains adapter (a connector only, i.e. no need to adapt the line voltage since your charger does that for you).

If you're re-locating over here, then you may have to resort to buying complete new power adapters (Apple or 3rd party).
