How to share a iP library?

How to share a iP library?

I have an iP library that is located in the "user>adminitrator>pictures" folder.
and I want a 2nd user, say "user 2" to be able to access and add or remove pictures from the same ipLibrary.

I tried to move the iplibrary that was in the user>adminitrator>pictures to the users>shared folder. But when I launched iP and pointed iP to that shared folder, I got an error that the IPlibrary was locked. So I did command +Info, and unlocked the iPlibrary from the administrator, and still get the same error message!!!!??

How can I have 2 different users use the same iPlibrary??

I tried something else.

I appears that when, say user 2 has the library running, that user 1 (even the admin) cannot launch iP within their user login. User 2 has to quit iPhoto, for the other user to access it... so I can I have this work on both user at the same time?

I did go in iP pref and made sure that sharing is clicked!

Here is all the info I have on sharing.

Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's

4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.

I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

Thnaks Lori,

I actually saw this answer of yours in this iP thread in response to someone else question.

I am not about to mess around with the terminal..... I messed up too many times.... and I dont' have time to learn that stuff.... borderline programming is not my stuff!

I will have to re-assess my situation and choose whta would be best for me.....

Another way to do it is:

1) move your iPhoto Library to a non-boot volume like a firewire drive.
2) Make sure the volume's Get Info panel has the "Ignore Ownership" box checked.
3) Log in as one of the users you want to have access to the shared library
4) command-option-drag the "iPhoto Library" folder from the non-boot volume to /Users/your-home-folder/Pictures
5) repeat steps 3 and 4 and for for each user
6) you might have to trash the iPhoto preferences file for each account before it works.

This is what I did for years under Jaguar and Panther. Now that Tiger has ACL ability I can finally keep the iPhoto Library in /Users/Shared rather than off the boot drive. This solution is the most elegant and trouble free, IMO. The Terminal is not that scary, just make sure that you've made restorable backups in case you mess anything up. But it's hard to mess it up if you just follow the instructions here; all you need to do is copy and paste into Terminal:
