The Easiest Way To Add Text In iPhoto

So I was helping someone add text to their picture and was SHOCKED to see that iPhoto still won't let you do it (what an oversight for a program that's on version 9 for crying out loud).

Anyway, without having to download or install anything, I set up Preview as an external editor for them. With preview you can do "text annotations" and because it's linked as the external editor when you edit a photo it instantly and seamlessly loads Preview and when you save the file it's instantly saved in iPhoto.

Granted there are much better editors out there the Preview, but this was quick and easy and the person was pleased as punch. This little tip may help you if you're looking for an easy way to add text with the tools already available on your Mac.

Dear Old Toad,

That's lovely, thank you. Only what I see on my screen in PSE is entirely different than your screenshots. What I see is only the photo image I want to put the caption on. When I click on the capital T I only get very tiny type on the photo which sort of worked for a a couple though small than I want. This one needs white type to show up and a much bigger font. The URL you give doesn't take me to the same page where I can set the font size and type. Somehow I was able to set the color on the first two but not the latter. Isn't there a simpler way to add captions to photos? You'd think many users would want to do that. It's always a struggle and the various fonts come out different sizes which looks bad, even tho all the images are the same width. I asked the writer of this article to provide three photos with the proper captions and he has not responded, so I guess he has similar struggles with it.
