Can't update apps

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 3G (iOS 3.1.3). It seems a bug in the code of the AppStore since one week ago. So, I hope that they solve it soon, because I don't want to depend of my computer with iTunes, neither to 'Update All' button (because I have some other apps updates that I am avoiding in purpose), neither to re-install because I would lose the data from those apps/games.

I wouldn't advise using iTunes on your computer to do app updates - I have had it break the app by upgrading to a version that wouldn't run on my device and there is no solution unless you already backed up the app file.

The best solution at the moment seems to be re-download on the iPod, as per

i have this same problem as well, however with me when i click on the update/ install button, instead of giving me my account apple ID it gives me my parents which was the account I first set up my account with. I have purchased and updated with my new account before and it has worked. strange how it isn't giving me my account now

You need to sign into the account that originally purchased an app in order to update an app. To change go to the Setting>Store and log out of the present account and log into the correct account.

I have been having this same issue for the past week. I have an iPhone 3G with iPhone OS 3.1.2. I can see the UPDATE button and it changes to INSTALL when I click on it, however when I click on INSTALL, it reverts to the UPDATE button.

All of my apps are affected. Some people are suggesting to check versions. For example, I am trying to update "The Weather Channel" app to version 3.1.1 (02/07/11). When I search for this app, there is no indication that it requires 3.1.3 or higher. Something interesting, though, is that when I searched for it and clicked on the FREE button to install it, it actually updated the app and kept all my settings, and disappeared from the App Store's Update list.

I also searched for and "bought" the "AOL Radio" app and it updated and kept my settings.

So, for those who only want to update only one app at a time may try searching for it and "buying" it again.

Having same issue here on a first gen iPod with iOS 3.1.3. The Buy/Free/Install button just toggles back and forth, but no update is ever initiated.

Hope they fix this soon.

I have this prob too. It seems to be related to the method of payment. I recently changed my credit card on My Account and since then, I can't update my existing apps. I can't go back and enter the correct credit card # or gift card # for past purchases. Please fix this, Apple!

The update issue isn't related to payment at least I don't think it is since I've never changed my payment method since I set up 4 years ago and I'm having the update problem too Apple needa whip their heads outta their ***** n actually pay some attention to the app store beyond how much it's earned them and fix this

I went into my local Apple store yesterday and asked about this. The guy looked at my iTouch (1st gen), looked at the operating system (3.1.3) and basically replied (in the usual friendly way) "Tough ... you can't update your apps any more or buy any more apps because you're on an old operating system and, because it's a 1st gen, you can't update the operating system any more". They are not going to fix it!
So nice of Apple to do this. My iTouch is about 2.1/2 years old, cost over £200 and is now virtually obsolete. Thanks Apple!!

I'm having the same problem. Has there been a fix? I've gone through the gamut of troubleshooting steps. Using "Update All" is not an option for me, nor is using iTunes, as I am rarely near my computer and cannot waste time on some workaround.

iPhone 2G, on i0S 3.1.3, also don't update that often for fear of i0S4 catered updates screwing up my apps... so now I'm having strange problems whereby when I try to update the app by pressing the 'FREE' button on it's update page, NOTHING happens. It changes shade of blue and back, but that's it. Same for all app updates. Help.

I think the app has dropped support for the old iPod.
