Problem with Lexmark updating from apple!

To whom may concern,

After updating the Lexmark software (for my case, the Lexmark Series 4900) from apple resources by using the OS utility i ve got the next problem to print:

"the OS can not find the file: /Library/Printers/Lexmark/Drivers/.Resources/4900 Series Color 2.lut" .

and the printer can not be found again from my local wifi network, even using Lexmark tools.

The solution is simple, uninstall all printer software and re-install by using an old version. It works fine even in Snow leopard OS (10.6.6). I do not recommend the automatic OS updating of this Lexmark software al least for now. Maybe the Lexmark soft in apple will need a further revision????.

Sincerely,
Sagrario

imac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Hi, I have the same problem since sunday - on all our three Mac's 😟
There should be a storm of indignation in every support forum about this broken update!

One dumb question: How do have unstalled the printer software.
Is it simply deleting the folder /Library/printer/Lexmark ??

Thanks,
Volu

Hello!

I had the same problem with my Lexmark X4950.

First I got this message: "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lexnet3 failed", so I went to Lexmark's homepage and downloaded the drivers for Mac OS X 10.6, but then I got the same message as you did. So I used the "Uninstall" in the Lexmark folder and removed everything that had to do with Lexmark, and then I downloaded the same driver again (for Mac OS X 10.6) from Lexmark's homepage. And I did the installation of the printer from scratch. And now the printer is working fine!

Good Afternoon,

I was just able to fix my Lexmark All-in-one X4850 after the Apple/OSX 10.6.6 Software update Lexmark Driver Update 2.4 broke my previously installed and working driver. Here are the steps that i followed that did work.

1. Downloaded and installed Lexmark Printer update 2.4 from Apple here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL901

2. Open Print & Fax.

3. On the left side inside white box with printer(s) listed, right click and choose Reset printing system. All printers will disappear.

4. In finder, navigate to /Library/Printers and move the Lexmark folder/items to trash.

5. In finder, navigate to /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources and move all Lexmark labeled files and folders to trash.

6. Visit support.lexmark.com and download the latest driver installer for your printer. In my case I was the image 4800 Series Web Install.

7. After reinstall of drivers, Lexmark assistant found wireless printer and complete install with no errors. Printing of test page successful.

8. Separate test printing a PDF doc also successful again! YAY!!

Good luck!

For old drivers you mean the drivers on the cd that came with the printer?
I have a lexmark x4550 and now I'm able to print only using USB:
if I try to print over wifi I get the following message "unable to read CUPS raster data".
Anyone who can still print via wifi could please help me?
I've already followed various procedures but none of them really worked for me.

My only solution to this problem on my Lexmark x9575 (connected to my network by ethernet) was to revert to the 2.3.1 Lexmark Drivers and ignore the 2.4 update which breaks printing on all of my Macs. This involves
1) uninstalling the drivers from the link in the folder within Applications or on your desktop;

2) Go into the Library folder on your main hard drive (not within your user folder) and delete InstalledPrinters.plist and the Lexmark folder (restart after uninstalling the driver in step 1 if it won't let you do this);

3) Download the latest drivers for your model on the Lexmark website and install them;

4) Search on the internet for 2.3.1 Lexmark Printer Driver. At the time of posting you can find it here: http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Drivers/Apple-Lexmark-Printer-Driver.shtml

5) Check you have version 2.3.1 - it should be called LexmarkPrinterDrivers2.3.1.dmg and install it.

6) go to software update, which will prompt you to install the 2.4 drivers and set software update to ignore the update (this can be done by clicking on the name of the update to highlight it, then going to the Update menu and selecting Ignore Update).

Hi,

it seems that even if I restart my computer after performing all the above steps and re-installing LexmarkPrinterDrivers2.3.1.dmg, nothing happens and I don't see my printer on the list of printers.

You mention above that the Lexmark Assistant would find the wireless printer and set it up, but this didn't happen.

Any advise would be appreciated.

(I wonder why Apple & Lexmark don't do anything about this update?)

You should be able to locate your printer after reinstalling the original drivers. You should only install the 2.3.1 drivers AFTER you have ℹ uninstalled the original drivers and deleted the files and folders referred to above; and (ii) installed the lexmark drivers from the lexmark website.

If you are having problems connecting wirelessly, you should try connecting via an ethernet cable and/or swapping in a new router to see if that makes a difference. I gave up on connecting to my Lexmark (about 3 weeks after I bought it 3 years ago) via wireless because it was too unstable.

Hi Sagrario! Your guide is very help full but when I go to delete the printer drivers and software with the lexmark s402 uninstaller it tell me can't do this because of one pending job to print, once I delete or stop this job I can delete the drivers etc, BUT, there's nothing to delete, I can't find any where to see that "pending job" to print! This problem begun when I made an up date with apple's software up date! I think I have to update to 10.6.7! If Is any body with other ideas to help me on this issue I'll appreciate!
