3G ---> 1X

Hi everyone,

Where I work we've always had issues with cell service (deep inside a building). Sprint and Verizon are the only ones that actually work indoors. Anyway, I've noticed that when the iPhone gets little reception it switches to 1x (which I assume is the little white circle) and 3G disappears. However, every time I get to an area of better coverage it stays on 1x and does NOT switch back to 3G unless I activate airplane mode then shut it off. Then 3G comes back. Anyone experience this?

Well on my place (I don't live in the United States though) i can get a full signal inside a building with a GSM carrier. I guess it depends on the Network Usage by many people.

1x (which I assume is the little white circle) and 3G disappears.

If the White Circle shows next to the Signal Bars and Carrier name, that means, your iPhone is connected via GPRS. It either switches to EDGE or GPRS, depending on the area.

1X is to indicate you're currently using a slower transmission with in the Verizon network. It's sort of like GPRS that is rarely seen on GSM phones when they drop from HSPA, to EDGE then to the even slower GPRS. With a CDMA iPhone your speed increases from 1X to EVDO Rev 0 to EVDO Rev A to EVDO Rev B.
