Import from Sony HDR-XR150

I have read the posts related to importing from a Sony HandyCam HDR-XR150, but the guidance does not address my issue.

I am attempting to transfer to an iMac with Intel dual processing, so I do not have an issue that others have covered. I have recorded all video to the hard drive in AVCHD (HD-HQ). When I connect by USB, the camera recognizes the connection, and iPhoto has opened and recognized videos as photos ready to import, but in iMovie the software does not recognize the connection. While some of the other posts address using an SD card, is there any way to connect direct from the hard-drive to import?

Paul,

I've been having the same difficulties on an intermittent basis; and don't have a solid solution for you (yet!). A couple of observations from my work on this so far:

1. If I manually start moving *.MTS files around to new folders on the camera (I was doing this so iMovie would allow me to use the Import All functionality rather than having to manually select each clip), iMovie would no longer allow me to import clips from the camera at all. Restoring the files back to their original folder fixed the problem. I suspect that one of two things are happening here: A) That iMovie is bailing-out on the camera if it can't locate a clip that the on-camera database thinks should be a certain location. B) One of the files/clips (or the sheer number of clips) is leading iMovie to determine that it's OK to use the files. I noticed that on the Sony, there's a repair Image DB button, but no repair Movie DB button... that could present a problem. I'm still experimenting with moving larger clips (and large numbers of clips) out to see if I can determine if it's A or B.

2. (This one is a little odd, but I include it just for completeness): I've never gotten the Sony to properly connect to iMovie unless I have the power cable plugged into the camera (ie Not just running off the battery). I have no idea what to make of that; but it's something to experiment with to see if you have any luck.

A quick question: If you manually open iMovie, do you see but not open the .MTS files when you go File --> Import --> Movies; then onto the camera navigating with No Name --> AVCHD --> BDMV --> STREAM?

Apologies for the slow response, but I get to try these home video projects only intermittently.

In response to your question, i.e., can I see but not open the .MTS files when I open iMovie manually and go File -->Import -->Movies and then navigate onto the camera with No Name -->AVCHD -->BDMV -->STREAM. Yes, see but not open describes what happens. I also tried a forced input through iMovie by opening a new project, then File -->Import --> under Devices selecting NO NAME -->AVCHD at which point the "importing files" box opens and "Filters Unusuable Files" with none ultimately accepted.

I also tried to import with the camera plugged into an AC power source rather than the battery power, but the change of power source did not have an impact.

There must be a way to import video, but I have yet to figure it out.
