MacBookAir Fan noise while WATCHING VIDEO (youtube, avi etc)

Hi guys!
My notebook fan goes crazy - makes a great noise only when streaming videos, no matter what quality or what source. Or when videoskyping
As today online streaming is a daily routine i find it strange that my macbook cannot cope with it. Fans go crazy but the performance doesn't slow down.

Using Safari or Firefox
streaming: youtube, iplayer, ov, ......

I could do with some help here since the sound is unbearable and disturbing.

Thanks!!

My MacBook Pro 13" 2 years old does the same, any web page with Flash content, Youtube, LastFM, GoogleMaps all sent the fan in "take off turbo mode".

The size of content being played or the number of applications open don't seem to make a difference.

It does it with Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

All my software is up-to-date and I have 4Gb Ram.

I took it to Apple a couple of times, they did all the standard diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong or an obvious cause for the problem.

Activity monitor doesn't point out anything meaningful.

The computer is raised so that air circulates well all around and below it.

Very annoying.

Hey

I have had this problem ever since i got my old white macbook back in 2006 its always been and pain and i just accepted it. Gave it to my parents 4 years ago as i upgraded and they never do more that web browsing. This fan noise was still a unfortunate issue.

I do believe I've found a solution that eases the problem.

I've always been looking for flash player updates to help but no update every made different. I did however totally forget about shockwave player! Before I installed it google chrome was using 90-100% and within a minute the fans would be full throttle if they video was playing or not. Now with shockwave player installed/ up to date the usage never goes over 40% and the fan does not increase at all.

Unfortunately the same cant be said for candy crush. Playing that game still uses 100-120%.

Hope this my help some of you out there. I been looking for a solution for 6 years and totally forgot shockwaves player still existed.

Cheers

I have had the same problem for the past couple of months. Everytime I launched a video on YouTube my fan would begin making a lot of noise. I tried several of the recommnedations made on this forum (i.e. resetting the SMC) with no luck, and I even reverted back to my previous OS-X, as I thought it could have been a result of Mavericks. None of that helped.

After all that I discovered that the issue simply came down to the hardware. My fan was broke. Not completely, but I'm guessing the piston the fan spins on had become loose over the years, and as a result, when it would start spinning quickly, it would begin to vibrate. So the fix was as simple as buying a replacement fan on Ebay ($6.00 including shipping). My MacBook is now as quiet as the day I bought it.

Hope that helps!
