iPhone 4 Front Screen Shattered

the same exact thing happened to me. i walked away after putting my phone on charge and setting it on a table. 20 minutes later i come back to a shattered front screen - the phone didn't drop or anything. the phone still works with siri but the display is shot and no touch screen functions are working currently. going to the apple store later, hope it will work out.

I got my iphone 4 from a local carrier in UAE (Du). And I can say that's the worst customer service compared to the stories I have read here.

I called Du call center, to find out what help I can get from them either under warranty service (my phone is less than a year with me from the date of purchase) or maybe 'out of warranty service' since I dropped it and the front glass was shattered just like when you smash a regular mirror. They asked me to go to Du Business Center or Axiom (local phone distributor) to inquire, so I did go to Axiom because it was the nearest to me, they told me that they cannot repair this because they have an agreement with Du not to open an iphone for repair and that they can only replace it, this is the only service they can do under my warranty contract, but they were asking for 1025AED cash to have it replaced which is more than 200US dollars (unbelievable!). So I called again Du call center to ask for another option, they advised me to go directly to Du Business Center to solve my problem right away, I did again, and then the receptionist refused to give me a token to wait in line to speak to a specialist, and said that my phone was more than 7 days old from the date of purchase and that they cannot do anything for me but to go back to Axiom and pay them, I argued that I just talked to their customer service agent and reassured me that Du will help me repair the broken glass under warranty contract and will not charge anything.

Du Business Center receptionist said that she will go speak to the manager in charge about the case, she came back after 2 mins and still refusing to help me. The agent still on the other line asked me to pass the phone to them, the receptionist again went inside and came and now told me that no one was available to speak to the agent (still waiting on the other line). I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the way they treat their customers, after a while 2 personnel -incharge came and told me that they were under strict instructions not to talk to their own customer service agents. OK, so again they asked me to go to Axiom, I told them I am not ready to pay more than 200US$, they said actually 1025AED is a good replacement deal.

It was very annoying, I mentioned that, I just need a rapair, maybe they can help me with that (after sales service) but they were so positive they cannot do anything for me, I told them I heard in the US they replace it for free, I said maybe I should just go to the US, the managers said, "yeah, maybe you should go there" (grrr)

I took their names, and the manager was so rude he even said 'that's my name, I am the manager, do you want me to write it down for you?" I was so irritated I answered back, no, its ok I can use my 'broken iPhone" 😟

It makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one. When I was getting my laptop serviced, at an apple authorized store/service center but not the apple store, I asked them about screens shattering and said what happened. They said that it was possible that a battery overheated or exploded, causing the screen to shatter from the inside. Wish I would have known that when it happened. I would have asked them to look into that.
