Greek and Hebrew in Safari browser

Hello:

How do I change the font to greek and hebrew in Safari (also in MS-Word for Mac) since some of the font aren't really reading in greek or hebrew fonts at any websites. Do I need to install the greek and hebrew fonts? Or any another way? Hope there's a way so I can read and study those for my Seminary class.

Thanks!
Billy

Safari should read Greek and Hebrew websites without problem. Could you provide the url of one that does not work for you? In some cases you might need to adjust View > Text Encoding. Also it is good to make sure that Greek and Hebrew are on the list in System Prefs/International/Languages by using the Edit button there.

MS Word X cannot do either Greek or Hebrew. MS Word 2004 can do Greek but not Hebrew. For Greek you need to go to System Prefs/International/Input Menu and check the box for Greek, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder," and then select Greek in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type.

For Hebrew, you can use TextEdit, Mellel (most consider this the best), Nisus Writer Express, AbiWord, or NeoOffice/J.

Here's the site you
can check on:

This site uses old technology designed for OS 9, requiring you to install special non-standard fonts. Modern machines and OS use Unicode and the fonts are already present. I don't know if the BST fonts will work with Safari or OS X. Is this the only site you can use for your work? Do you have Classic/OS 9 on your machine that you can use for this purpose? That would probably be easiest. Personally I would try to always work in Unicode and OS X if possible.

PS I downloaded the BST fonts and installed them and it looks like that site will work in Safari and OS X, at least in the Greek I tried (you type transliterated Greek in the box and get back a list of words in Greek script).

To get the fonts you may have to use Control + click and "save linked file as..". The .sea file you get should be dragged onto Stuffit Expander in Applications/Utilities to unpack the fonts. The fonts should be put in Users/username/Library/Fonts.
