iworks vs ms office 2011

I just bot a macbook pro yesterday and i am wondering what i should buy. iworks or ms office 2011. Basically my wife uses spreadsheet to pay bills, and sometime i have to write papers for school or work. I am just concerned that if i write a paper in iworks the professor wont be able to open in in microsft word. Please help!

I have only been using Pages and Keynote for almost 2 months and before I used Microsoft Office for many many years. I have used Pages for many of my assignments at school and Keynote has only been used to view my profs lecture notes.

Personally, I prefer Word over Pages for many reasons. I can insert an equation in Word easily while in Pages, it does not include a program to insert equations. This is
