I have a white MacBook that is having issues with charging. I bought this used and they said it would charge a battery but it won't. I've tried all the keyboard options for resetting PRAM adn other stuff, holding down power button. It lights ups the power adapter, but so faint you can barely see it. I work in a tech center as a tech so we had a MacBook and I tried its adapter and it did the same thing. I thought the battery was junk so I ordered a new one and it won't charge it either. If you have the machine powered on and remove the battery, it knows there is no battery so it is getting power back to the battery. I've ruled out chargers/batteries so it has to be magsafe or battery connetor, or logic board. As long as you leave it plugged in to an outlet it works fine, but as soon as you disconnect the adapter it is dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have it tore apart right now again and I have a volt meter if I need to check any read outs. This is a white macbook Build 9L31a.
I'm trying to figure out how they are getting 3.6V out of a factory 3.0V battery? The battery itself is just a Panasonic BR2325 3V battery under the blue shrink wrap.
Well then in that case, you might not need a new battery. I misread your post. Sorry. I'd start looking at the battery being charged, and the power adapter used to charge it. Bring it in for service to see what's wrong.
I pulled a CMOS battery from a windows pc that is a 3V that was putting out 2.95V I have the old Macbook Main Battery along with another brand new Main battery, along with a new charger. Ready to throw it out the window.
I recently resolved a somewhat similar problem with a MacBook 2,1 (Late 2006). MacBook worked fine on MagSafe, battery not recognized and would not charge. Always green light on MagSafe, never orange. Note: The green light was normal brightness so my problem might be different.
A new battery that was not genuine Apple ran the MacBook just fine, but would not charge. The same battery charged fine in a similar MacBook. I visited the Genius Bar and tested with an Apple battery, it was immediately recognized and charged fine. So I bought a $130 (+tax) Apple battery and a few weeks later it still works great.
Recommendation: Schedule a Genius Bar appointment to test with a known good Apple battery. Be sure to test with the battery low enough to charge at full current.
