Is there a way to turn off and On the isight camera or app to do it ?????

Hi

Does anyone know either of a Simple way to Turn off the isight camera on a Macbook pro (3.1 model with Snow leopard) or a simple program or Widget to do this ??

I have already Googled this but cannot find much - except disable certain files, or a Applescript by Techslaves.org called isight disabler , which seems great except I have to run applescript each time run this script, put in password, then select !
SO is there a Basic app or even a Way of making the isight disabler work like a simple app - or a way to do with Mac's settings ??

Any help is Appriciated
Thanks Mark

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 2.4ghz , 1gb ram,

I also wanted to turn of my camera from the system level, especially for Skype.

I searched this community and I found

Generally deactive webcam

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3856752?answerId=18054597022#18054597022

which pointed me to

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23346/isight-disabler

which is a script that worked.

It allows you to turn the camera off an on without doing surgery on the Library files.

I am sure you could do what you want with AppleScript if you knew how. I have seen several books about AppleScript, but I have never read one.

Automator control of Photo Booth could probably do it, too.

Finally, There are likely third part apps that can do what you want.

I did a web search for "camera isight take picture make image boot up Mac AppleScript" and found many topics that might help get you going. Here are a few examples that might be worth a look:

 • Anti-theft protection with Automator « squaresquirrel.ro

 • Mac Automation: Automator for Leopard | TUAW

 • Snap and upload iSight pictures on wake from sleep - Mac OS X Hints

 • OS X taking a photo with the iSight using a command-line tool?

It seems like Apple changed some of the places where the plugin is stored. The following worked for me:

to disable

chmod 000 /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/AppleCamera.plugin/Contents/MacOS/AppleCamera

chmod 000 /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/FCP-DAL/AppleCamera.plugin/Contents/MacOS/AppleCa mera

to enable change the 000 to 755. You need to be logged in as root, or alternatively write sudo before chmod.

Cheers.

BTW, this is for MacOS X Mavericks (10.9) on a MacBook air from mid-2013.

Many thanks I couldn't get this to work by changing the permissions though I'm sure that's just a user error on my part. I did however move the files on to my desktop, delete from the original locations and restart. This worked perfectly. Replacing the files and restarting reversed the process.

Is there anyone with vastly better scripting skills than me able to turn this into a simple process like iSight disabler?

Hi,

I had my iSight camera for three years, but only learned this recently. ;-)

Gently rotate the front of the lens counter-clockwise (when the lens is pointed at you). The green indicator light will shut off. If you rotate the lens clockwise, the green light will come on.

Note that the green light will only activate or deactivate if there is an iSight app running, like facetime.

Hope that helps....

Is there a way to turn off and On the isight camera or app to do it ?????
