Adding Yahoo Email account

Hello All,
I have a problem with my iPad and iphone 4 when adding a new email account for yahoo. I tried adding my existing account to my iphone and ipad with no luck I receive a message *(Yahoo! Server Unavailable, Please try again later)* on both units, the funny thing is my email account works fine on the internet. I tried resetting network settings, rebooting the phone and I even called tech support but no go... Has anyone came accross this issue before? I really need some help here.. Would be appreciated.

Both units are up to date on firmware versions

Hi,

Try disabling anti virus software and turning off the Firewall on your computer.

Huh? How would that have any effect on his iPhone and iPad? The problem is on those devices - not on Andy's computer...

For POP access to Yahoo you need their Mail Plus account at $19.99 p.a. The free account provides only webmail.

Are you sure? I've never paid that and I've not found anyone else that has but I've used it on the iPhone in Mail.

But they have been having problems lately that will result in that message.

Well, I've never tried to connect to my (free) Yahoo account through Mail, but it's what their site says.

In most cases, Yahoo does require that you pay for Mail Plus in order to have POP access to your account. The iPhone is an exception, however. Be sure you set it up using the supplied Yahoo account setup on the iPhone and not through the "other account" option. It will actually set it up as an IMAP account that is available only for iPhone users.

Close the mail app on the iphone and go to a computer, sign in to your yahoo mail account and do the verification that it pops up. If there is no such thing that pops up then go back to your iphone and do the following:

1.) Delete the yahoo mail account on your iphone.

2.) Add mail account using "other" instead of "Yahoo!" and setup as IMAP account.

3.) Use the following information:

- username MUST include @yahoo.com at the end

- incoming server = imap.mail.yahoo.com

- outgoing server = smtp.mail.yahoo.com

- always retype your password

Tell me if this solution works or doesn't work. It worked on my girlfriend's iphone4 after 16 hours of reading online and messing with it and a lot of restoring.

Roger is right. Free Yahoo Mail won't work on iPad. I had to set up a Gmail account, and any Yahoo Mail gets redirected to my Gmail account. There are apps that can supposedly allow access to Yahoo Mail, but it never worked for me, and not only that but you had to have the third-party app open to access the Yahoo account.
