Over the past week McAfee has started to block my iPad backup. Have been searching everywhere to figure out how to fix it to no avail. Any assistance that can be provided would be appreciated. The version of iTunes that I have installed is 10.1.2.17.

Thanks for your help. I ended up disabling McAfee completely which as you indicated resolved it.
The simplest solution is to disable McAfee when syncing. I know that isn't ideal, but it'll work and you'll get a backup. Maybe there are McAfee forums that can help.
If it's the firewall element of McAfee that's the issue, there should be somewhere in its user interface that allows you to unblock either the port or access to the device.

Thanks for your response. I have tried turning off the McAfee firewall but am still running into the same problem. Any other suggestion?
If that doesn't work, disable McAfee completely. You don't say whether you're Mac or Windows, but either way, the best way is to stop McAfee from stating when the computer starts
