Which Flash Player for OS 10.4.11?

Hi;

I've been searching the discussions about which version of Adobe Flash Player I need to install. I was directed to the Adobe support site, but there seems to be no clear guide as to exactly which version will work with my system configuration. So I downloaded a number of versions of both 9 and 10.

Which one is right for me?

Thanks!

Warren T.

Archived Flash Player versions available for testing

The files you have downloaded here are specifically for Flash developers who are testing their movies with older Flash Players. For normal use, please download the current version of the Flash Player, available from the Flash Player Download Center ( http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash).

Adobe has made these archived players available for download at the request of the Flash developer community. Macromedia Technical Support does not provide support for the installation or use of these old players.

Before installing a different Flash Player we recommend uninstalling the currently installed Flash Player and restarting the system. For more information on removing and installing the Flash Player, see How to uninstall the Flash plug-in and ActiveX Control (TechNote 14157, http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157). If you previously installed a version of Flash Player for Internet Explorer, then you may be prevented from installing an earlier version. To resolve this issue, follow the additional instructions found in Safe versions security restrictions when installing Flash Player (TechNote kb402435, http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402435&sliceId=2).

Except as expressly provided otherwise in an agreement between you and Adobe, all players are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, for testing purposes only.

Your use of these players is governed by the End User License Agreement found at http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/. Distribution of these players is prohibited except as expressly provided otherwise in an agreement between you and Adobe.

You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. The latest version, 10.2.152.25 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html#prob1=uninst,os=m10.6,

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Klaus;

One quick question I meant to ask: I downloaded the correct version of Flash Reader and went through the installation process. Even though I had Firefox running at the time, it seemed to go through the process fine; I also received a message indicating the installation was successful.

However, I did not as yet repair my permissions. What's the best way to repair permissions with Tiger (10.4.11)?

Thanks again!

Same as on Leopard:

Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.

Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).

In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.

This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

Well, this may have been correct advice at the time, but as of today, 12/28/11, it results in complete loss of Flash capability on my PPC iBook G4, with no chance of recovery once you use the uninstaller.

I can't find archived versions of 10,1,102,64 or even of the vulnerable 10.3.183.5 anywhere online and Adobe's site is worse than useless, it tells you to install 10.2.x and then halfway through the process tells you it can't be done on PPC machines. So you're left with no flash capability any longer.

No more Flash or YouTube videos for me, I guess. 😟😟😟

That's one way to force users to buy newer Apples with Intel processors, I guess.

Download this if you haven't...

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp10.1.102.6 4_and_9.0.289.0archive.zip

Once downloaded if it doesn't unzip automatically the double click on that file.

Look for the fp10.1.102.64_and_9.0.289.0archive folder, open it, look for the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 folder & open and look for 101r10264 folder & open it, double click on the flashplayer101r102_64_ubmac.dmg file, choose the Install Adobe Flash Player file to install... they don't make it easy! 😟

Or I put up the smaller ones here...
