VHS tapes to Imovie to IDVD with best quality or lossless

I posted similar before but could someone tell me the best software and program to extract a DVD (containing VHS transferred video) to IMovie? I have DVD Ripper Pro for Mac, Quicktime 7 Pro, etc. I need to use IMovie 11. I don't want to use any alternatives for the actual editing. I have to believe that there is a software that can take a DVD with Standard Quality VHS videos and convert them to something that IMovie 11 understands. I see options like H.264, .mov, .mp4, DV, etc. Has anyone done this successfully? This should be easy. Why is Mac so difficult to do simple tasks.

I imported the DV clips into IMovie and they are wavy lined. What do I do now? There has got to be a way to do this.

There is a way.

If you want your movie to look perfect (as I do) you have three choices.

1) iMovie 06, (my normal choice).

2) Final Cut Express, (I use this too, when I need fancy editing).

3) Adobe Premiere Elements, ( I have only limited experience with this, the quality is good but I would lose the ability to get help from this wonderful form).
