Can not empty Aperture trash

I have just installed Aperture 3.1.1 Academic version.
I imported a few pictures before setting up my real library.
I try to delete a project or a picture and they go to the trash as expected. I try to empty aperture trash but nothing happens. the files remain in the aperture trash and the osx trash is unchanged.
I removed all preferences, repaired permissions, reinstalled Aperture, restarted and repaired permissions several times. created a new library... I still can not empty Aperture trash when there is a single version, or master, or project.
What am I missing?!
I can trash the entire library from the finder, but that's not too helpful once I start really using it.

This is what is logged in the console when I try to empty the trash.

Is this helpful?

I have seen some posts with logs referring to 'Cannot load Interface Builder..' and as I recall, the fix (where the issue was resolved) was to download and run the 'OS X 10.6.6 Update Combo'.

At this point, it seems like an idea that won't hurt anything and will at least write all the current 10.6.6 files correctly (the only downside is the time it takes to download the file). 😉

Still not resolved.
I spoke with Apple support last night and gave them the link to this thread.
They had me confirm that it doesn't work after trashing my user pref file nor from my test user account. Then they said to reinstall OS 10.6

I reinstalled 10.6 from DVD
I then installed 10.6.6 combo update (prior to restart it said can't use this version of paper screen saver. restarted and it used fireworks like one. I doubt this is at all related.)

I just now fired up Aperture. Still can not empty Aperture trash!

I will call Apple again when they open.
I'll let you know if and when this is solved.

Apple Pro App support says I need to do an erase and install.
I have 144 apps in my app folder so I am on line with another part of support trying to see if there is a faster way to reinstall all those apps. Like install os then copy app folder back and some library files.
This will not work with aperture but I think it will work with many other apps.

3/5/11 11:20:46 AM Aperture[736] Cannot load Interface Builder file 'NSAlertPanel'

This is probably the most telling problem - can't pull a core service from the os.

more updates to come...
suggestions welcome before spending several days I don't have reinstalling apps.

Progress! At a cost - time.
I backed up with time machine.
Erased my hard drive.
Installed snow leopard followed by combo update 10.6.6
Installed Aperture followed but update 3.1.1
created a library, imported two pictures, deleted one and emptied the aperture trash. It worked!
I then ran repair permissions
Migration Assistant to restore from Time Machine - (I was warned against doing this by apple but installing apps one at a time will take days. this took a day. Time machine restore took 3.5 hours.)
Repaired permissions again.
Aperture works with my original libraries BUT all external references are lost. They need to be reestablished manually from within aperture. (File>Relocate Referenced Files)
Other issues: iCal came up with no appointments. deleted cache file and that fixed that.
Mail app quit on startup. removed bundles folder from user-Library>Mail>Bundles and put it on the desktop until after all mail was imported and it was running OK. Put Bundles folder back and that worked fine, but some old mail showed up as new without subjects. (bundles or mail add-ons: letterbox and mail tags)
I include these detail to show that it is not a clean operation and still requires quite a bit of work and digging into library folders etc to get up and running. CS4, Office and other programs I've tried are all running.
I will record this thread as answered tomorrow if no other issues arise.

In short - I had to nuke my system and do a clean install. A fairly radical fix. I did it because I think there may have been problems that would have come out sooner or later anyway. The system may be a bit more responsive now. Doing this draconian step will also address any disc fragmentation.

Thanks for all the help!

Thanks!
One last thing. It seems that on a clean install you have to authorize itunes again. I think it gives the drive a new UUID. Had I known this I could have de authorized the machine prior to formatting the drive. I have now used all 5 of my authorizations. I could de authorize all and start over but I'm happy just to have things functional now. This may seem off topic - but a lot of off topic things happen when you have to nuke your system, even if you have a good backup.
All in all I'm up and running.
Thanks again for the help.
Now to get back to learning Aperture and shifting my workflow.

Conclusion: Had to erase drive, clean os install, clean Aperture install, migrate from backup.

Hi, I can see that i'm a bit late here but anyways..
I have had the same problem as you, could not get the last nine photos out of my trash, even tho I emptied it and it told me that it was empty..
But tonight I found out a great thing..
I just selected all the files that was in the trash (that I could not get away from there) and dragged them back to the trash icon, then it told me that I had 9 items in the trash!!
I pressed Empty Trash and they went away!! Finally!!

Sorry to hear that you had to go through the mess to get it done..
But I wanted to tell you,so you can try this next time 🙂
