Songs won't import into library

Hi.

I have about 2,400 songs in my MY MUSIC folder. I tried to add this folder to my library so that I could then listen to my songs in my ipod. However, only 1,600 songs actually imported into the library. I tried to open the missing song files directly into the library, but they wouldn't open. I haven't checked all 800 missing songs, but many of the ones I did check were MP3 files. Why can't I open them in my library?

I have the same problem. Most of my CD's stored on my hard drive and purchased tracks from NAPSTER won't upload into itunes. I have over 3000 songs on my hard drive and about 50 are in Itunes. When I tried to add a napster purchased track, Itunes asked me for the original CD. What the heck?
If I can't get those tracks on my IPOD, I'll have to take it back. I'm not about to re-purchase these songs through Itunes. HELP!!!!

A lot of my music came from my ex boyfriend who put them in my laptop via an external harddrive after we broke up (We had been sharing a computer/music before then). Also, a lot of my music came from CDs that I ripped directly into my computer, but I converted all of those to MP3s, and most of them are working. The rest of my music came from soulseek.

The weird thing is that I cant find any pattern to the songs that won't add to my library. For example, I have a folder called "Cake - Comfort Eagle" which contains all the songs from the comfort eagle album. They were all downloaded at the same time, have the same file extensions, are all MP3s, and are in the same folder, but only the first 4 songs of that album will add into my library. I tried adding the rest of the songs from that album individually, but they won't work. I can listen to all the songs just fine in winamp, so i dont think the files are corrupted or anything.

Yes that is one method. Please note that you will increase the quality lost from the music. The tracks are in a lossy format. Which means some of the song information is dropped to decrease the file size. So if you go to a mp3 to CD back to aac the quality lost increases. Remember once music information is gone its gone unless you have the masters.

Here is a little DRM guide.

MP3s come in all sort of variants, some of which will play in some players and not others. For instance, iTunes cannot, I believe, handle variable bit rate (VBR) MP3 files (though I could be wrong). Some MP3s also can have incorrect or corrupted headers (this is particularly common on P2P networks such as Limewire). You might try MP3 Repair Tool on one of the problem tracks (make a copy first and work on the copy) and see if it helps.

Your Rio player also includes the WMA player from Microsoft, which is required to play Napster tracks. iTunes does not have the ability to play or convert protected WMA.

If you continue to have problems or questions, "wheels", I'd suggest you start a new topic. It's a bit impolite to clutter up the original poster's thread with what are essentially unrelated issues.

Regards.
