Macbook Pro (2010) 16gb memory

Ok, I tried searching but couldn't find anything, so if I have missed it please feel free to point me in the direction of a previous post...

My problem is that I do a lot of heavy software development and I need to be mobile and as much as I love my Macbook Pro, 8GB main memory is nowhere near enough for what I need, especially with how poor the OS inappropriately blocks inactive memory. I know I can buy 8GB memory chips from Crucial to give me 16GB, and I know it may even void my warranty (but I have no choice on that front). But before I part with the cash, can I ask if anyone actually tried to put 16GB of memory into a MacBook Pro and if so does it work or am I wasting my money?

Many thanks in advance

GUYS!!!! I now have 16gb working 100% in my 2010 mbp. OWC ( other world computing) sells a 16gb kit 1066mhz @ 99$ for the Mid-2010 MBP 13" I bit the bullet and got it, works FLAWLESSLY!

Pros: Lifetime warranty, dual channel, works without mods plug and play, windows 7 64bit and 10.8 both work without slowdowns and hiccups. The performance difference is really noticable in 10.8!!! No more slowdowns once in a while ( stock 4gb ram slows down every couple of minutes in 10.8, very noticeable when web browsing, 8gb does not do this however, you can feel a difference with 16gb , meaning 8gb gets clogged rather quickly as well too. I HIGHLY recommend this kit!!!!

Cons: 100$, but well worth the extra $40 considering the saved headache!!!!

Thus, in conculsion, DO NOT BUY CHEAP RAM off ebay. Only branded products like owc, or PNY, or others, the first 16gb kit I got was not branded and thus not very compatible. ( works fine in my acer core i3.)

Myth BUSTED. 16gb ram DOES WORKin a mid 2010 macbook pro 13" with the nvidia 320m chipset and a core 2 duo 2.4ghz. This means the mac mini with the same chipset SHOULD support it as well!!!!!

Guys, if it runs on a 13" with the 320m, it will run on the 17" with the 320m or on a c2d 2.6ghz etc etc.

I bit the bullet, heck , just do it, and post results, if it doesn't work, rma!!! Or email owc first! The ram they sell is matched identically in specs other then size as to what the mid 2010 uses, so if your computer uses the same ram (1066mhz) there should be NO REASON why this kit would not work. The cheap ebay kits, thats another story!!!! Looks like the EFI does not have a soft block built in for capacity. The only issues are that the ram must be matched perfectly to what was stock. So, CL3, non ecc, non buffered etc etc. As long as all specs match and its a branded kit, it should work! Personally, the owc kit is not that much more $$, so i said screw it no more hassle and got it.
