MacBook pro 2011 ssd or hdd

Would it be better to buy a new MacBook pro with the 128g ssd or keep the standard hard drive? I would get an external drive either way. Which way would you go and why?

Which Macbook did you do it with New2mac? I've got a macbook pro early 2011 and wishing to swap out my excisting drive with a ssd and use the old drive in place of dvd . Just put 16gb ram in so the ssd is my last upgrade. Only query is is it as easy as putting the ssd in and using an external device with time machine to reboot my mac? Also how does the ssd cope with having games installed etc? should they be booted off hardrive or ssd fine with that also?

Becca,

Is best to know what you want before you go into an Apple Store and not too rely on what a salesperson tells you that your should get.

Why are you regretting your purchase? What other Mac are you considering?

Definately get what you need Becca. If that means returning the MBP then do it.

I've had an Intel 320 SDD 120GB in my early 2008 MBP 15" for about a year and a half. Great drive. No problems at all. Really makes a huge difference. Added a few more years to my laptop.

Samsung and Intel(the ones with the Intel controllers) SSDs are both excellent drives.

I'm also using the hdd that came in the MBP as an external drive. Installed it in a nice little enclosure from OWC.
