"could not sign in please check your network connection and try again"

I get this error when trying to sign in to Facetime on my mac -

"could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again"

Network is absolutely fine, so don't know why it says that...?

Any idea?

I bought my new Mac Pro last night and was having the same problem. after hours on the phone with apple, i was told to contact Verizon (my DSL carrier) and confirm all of the following ports are open :Ports:
443 tcp
3478 – 3497 udp ports
5223 tcp
16384 – 16387 udp ports
16393 – 16402 udp ports

Verizon determined that the software on my modem was out dated. They were able to remote in and download and install new software. Once that was completed, Facetime worked fine.
