have you login appleid.apple.com and make sure your primary appleid email have been verified?

I'm having the same problem as everyone else with the FaceTime from the Mac App Store. For what it's worth, I had the beta which worked fine, even right up until I bought the new version in the app store. I've tried connecting from public (university) and private (home) wireless, and from an ethernet connection from both as well. No change, no difference.

I'm assuming this is some kind of software glitch? Hopefully Apple is aware of it and will update soon...

Still not working after:

-Added the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to DNS
-Forwarded the ports from this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4245
-Uninstalled/reinstalled
-Deleted p-list file in the launchagents
-Spent over an hour on the phone with customer care

I know it only cost a dollar, but I really want this to work. Any ideas?

I also verified my apple id.

Is anyone at Apple watching this?

Surely the fact that there are so many of us with the same problem indicates there's something wrong?

One more -> paid my dollar only to discover FaceTime won't accept my email address.

It gets worse! Previously, I could get past the "try again" message by deleting the country tag from my address. So, out of frustration, I figured the answer was to record that as my Apple id address. Duly accepted and recorded. Eureka! So logged in using my "new" email address. Up came the "try Again" message. I've had it. Back to Skype. Sad, because FaceTime looked so good. The $1 I'll write off to experience. ⚠

I have a valid AppleID and can login to appleid.apple.com, but unable to login and download the FaceTime from AppStore using Stanford University's wifi. It's very very frustrating.

I just downloaded the FaceTime app and am also getting the same email error message with a valid AppleID and password. Apple, are you listening? It's just a dollar but it's very frustrating.

I was having the same problem as others; beta worked fine, but received 'could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again.' after downloading the new version. I went to appleid.apple.com and logged in to the apple ID acct I was trying to use. After verifying the email address (the same one I was using with the beta), I was able to log in.

I had the same issue and tried everything on this thread. Then I realized that Peerguardian was running in the background. Once I removed that it worked.
