"could not sign in please check your network connection and try again"

I get this error when trying to sign in to Facetime on my mac -

"could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again"

Network is absolutely fine, so don't know why it says that...?

Any idea?

I'm not running Peer Guardian, so this is probably an open issue for many of us.

My brand new Macbook Pro, that came with Facetime Version 1.0 (159), has the same issue: "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."

Curiously, if you try to create a new account from within Facetime, it has no problem communicating with Apple. However, attempting to use the new account results in the same "Could not sign in" message. This is likely due to an open ports requirement of Facetime, but it would be great is someone had a solution.

when operating on wireless network, change your operating IP address. Add +1 to the last digit of your IP. worked for me. obviously there is some kind of bug that ends up blocking your IP address from contacting apple through the program. lots and lots of bugs for this consumer released application from apple. I thought apple was about simplifying technology, and making things at a high level, not releasing applications that barely function and not supplying the support needed by their own customers. I love my Mac stuff, but seriously apple. figure your S&*T out.

open network preferences in your airport menu bar, then advanced, then the TCP/IP tab, "copy" or write down what your current IP address is, then select DCHP with manual address from the pull down menu, paste your old IP in, but if your IP ends with a 6 make it a 7 or 8. then save preferences and apply everything. this should work. every wireless router will allow for 10 or 15 different IP's because each computer has to have a different one to have an internet connection. let me know how it works
