"could not sign in please check your network connection and try again"

I get this error when trying to sign in to Facetime on my mac -

"could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again"

Network is absolutely fine, so don't know why it says that...?

Any idea?

I did 2 things and it solved the problem for me. Not sure if it was one or the other that fixed the problem. Try #1 first and see if it works - let us know.

1. Went into my wifi router and deleted the ip address my ipad had been dynamically assigned. The router then assigned it a new ip address. I then renewed the lease in wifi > network settings just to make sure it had been flushed.

2. I added 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 to the DNS settings under wifi > network (they're googles dns address apparently). This was suggested elsewhere in the support forums.

Now, works fine! 🙂

Hopefully it'll work for you.

facetime works fine on my imac, but the same apple id in the same wifi on my macbook air won't work..

it seems that facetime cannot connect to apple since i can't even create a new account in the facetime app on my macbook air..

tried the dns thing, tried it on another wifi.. tried it with another ip ... anyone any ideas?

Had this problem, as well.

I was able to solve it by going to System Preferences / Network / Advanced / TCP/IP. Once there, I selected "Using DHCP" from the IPv4 drop-down menu. Click on the "Renew DCHP Lease" button (Right side of the diualog box).

Once that was done, FaceTime signed in and is now up and running.

Yes. Well. Now if I just had someone to talk to.
