Apple Battery Charger ! Never Shows 100%

I bought the Apple Batterry Charger & I charge the Batteries for well over 6-7 Hours. Until the Indicator Light Shuts Off. When I put the Batteries in my Mouse & Keyboards, it report between 77-81% Charged. Do I have faulty Batteries? Anyone who own this item, please comment.

No, that's normal. The reason is because the rechargeables are 1.2 volts where non rechargeables are 1.5 volts. So you'll never see a 100% reading for rechargeables.

El Denio I have a Question: Have you not checked your Charge Level under the Bluetooth Settings for Keyboard & Mouse? That is where I'm looking. There is no Gauge on the Charger. That's how I know the Percentage my batteries are charged.

Sorry man! I got in my head somehow that your charger had a display on it. No idea why, looking back at it.

Yes I have used that indicator. I find that alkaline batteries charge to 100% whereas rechargables get to between 75 and 85%. I know they are each of different chemistry so I tend never worry about it.

I know that the both types last around the same length of time and that only the one type can be recharged. I'm also aware that the rechargable type maybe a thousand times making it economically more advantageous to use than the alkaline type before either having to be recycled.

Incidentally, I have tried recharging my alkalines too. It works great the first time one recharges an "alk", typically lasting a further two days of normal use before they die again. They get up to about 46-49% charge on this first occasion. I understand from my chargers instruction manual that alks can be recharged up to a maximym of ten times but, in my experience, I don't bother after the second recharge because the time it takes for a recharged alk to die each time seems to shorten dramatically. For instance, the first recharge and the battery lasts for another two or three days, the second recharge maybe a day and the third recharge maybe a few hours and then the fourth about an hour. Recharge time being a couple of hours, maybe three hours, each time. So the returns diminish really quite rapidly.

I found a website once that explained what was going on in batteries of all sorts of chemistry. I will search around to see if I can find it once more and give you the link. I will be back shortly my friend.

No. Although I have a Battery Tester with A Gauge. I am not using it for my conclusions. Just the Snow Leopard Bluetooth Settings. I find it very interesting that you can Recharge disposable Alkaline Batteries in a Charger. I always read that the batteries would explode or leak. Do they Alkaline s also report when they have a Full Charge? Interesting, to say the least.

I thought they would explode too!

Anyway, as promised, I tried to find that link to where someone explained all about batteries.

The link I was thinking about has vanished although I did find this version of it in some kind of archive.

You may find this helpful also. It’s an alternative battery charge calculator.

The following link has a product that looks and behaves just like my own charger. If you find out that it is made in China - it probably is my charger!

If you decide to buy this particular charger, be warned. The semi-transparent lid over the battery compartment gets broken quite easily. At least mine got broken somehow not long after I got it. It’s not a problem though and, other than that, this charger is all it’s cracked up to be.

Actually this one looks exactly like mine -

Anyway, I hope this helps. I was hoping to find one with a graph that indicated the difference between the tow types of battery. But sadly this doesn't appear to be around anymore. I'll keep looking for a while though. You never know.

Wow El Deanio, that is a ton of info. Thank you. I think I will keep my Apple Battery Charger. As long as it's not defective & I think with all the great info I got from you guys, I can rest assured, my Batteries & Charger are both fine. Although I would like to see a Software Update from Apple which would report 100% for Rechargeable s when they are fully charged. Accuracy for Rechargeable Batteries. Being that these are in fact made by Apple & intended for Mouse, Keyboard & Trackpad, I would expect Apple to address this.

I found this thread because I too am noticing issues with my recently purchased Apple rechargable batteries. For example I just 'fully charged' a pair of AA's until the Apple charger light went green. Then I put them into my Magic Trackpad and it told me the batteries were about out and had 9% charge!
