24" LED Display with 2011 15" MPB

I have a brand new iMac and a 2 year old external display. If I plug it into the left side thunderbolt port on the iMac I get the flickering mentioned above. If I then plug it into the other thunderbolt port, I get no flickering. Weird, huh?

Check the Mac Mini/24" discussion. Apple has released new firmware for the 24" LCD and it works for mine. The flickering is 100% gone with no extra cables or anything.

I'm dubious of a firmware upgrade that isn't being rolled out through software update.

Downloaded the 24 inch Firmware update but when I tried install - it tells me the update is not for my Mac and refuse to install. I'm using a early 2011 17 inch Macbook Pro.

I got that message when I first tried. I didn't have my Cinema Display connected. When I connected the Cinema Display, the update went without issue. Been running for 4 hours with no flicker (which would NEVER happen before!). Good luck.

It worked on my early 2011 15" Macbook Pro with the 2.3Ghz. Will have to see if the flickering subsides.

This latest fix from the backdoor of Apple really seems to fix the problem. ZERO blackouts this afternoon. While they would previously come and go, I never went this long trouble-free. I'm surprised this time, because none of the previous fixes did anything, and I was getting ready to march down to the genius bar with all my gear. I have a new MBA with my older 24-inch ACD.

This would certainly figure. They post it, hide it, and then list it in software update later on so as to make it appear as the fix has been out a while. And I just upgraded to two new thunderbolt displays. The store was a HUGE help, but if Apple's phone support had simply said something more specific earlier on I certainly would have loved this route as a solution if it is indeed a fix.

The whole handling of this situation is just making me shake my head. Hope it fixes it for you guys! I know it's been a long time coming.

Just installed it, fingers crossed, so far so good. Still doesn't change the fact that 7 months of being on the phone to Apple Care makes Apple the worst compnay I ever had to deal with.

I haven't had a flicker since the install so I assume that it is working or at least fixes the issue to be discrete.

Couldn't agree more with helloniklas, this has been a terrible "display" from Apple on consumer care. In the past I have had confidence in their Apple Care and extra lenghty support measures but now I know Apple Care is money in the can.

Just a simple thing as a webpage with the error and a notice that they are working on it would have been the least to expect of a problem with this magnitude. Since both companies and regurlar users we're experiencing this issue.

If it weren't for OSX and the drooling designs (silent, slick, backlit keyboard) of the computers I would have left months ago.

Seriously? Are we talking about a major natural disaster here, a disease that keeps killing millions despite available cures etc... clearly, no one is perfect... possibly, not even the posters on this discussion (including me)...
