2011 Macbook Pro Hard Drive noise.

Hi all.
Just bought a new Macbook Pro and started to make some Hard Drive noise. Like is working (write/read data).
Especially if you open some softwares, like CS5, Nero,...

I have a old 2009 Macbook Pro and never have this kind of sound (or is not so strong). Is very quiet.
My wife have a 13' Macbook Pro and the noise/sound is very low. But with the new 2011 is more prominent.

This is normal? Something to do with the new processors?

Anyone have the same experience?

Thanks

Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Welcome to the real world.. While Apple finally started to care about the noise in iMac 2012 series, there are lots of previous models which have absolutely different noise levels regardless of the price. And sometimes it's just a matter of luck.

Unfortunately, Apple service is typically useless in fixing these issues. If you'd like a silent HDD for your MBP it would be much better to buy and install it yourself. Something like this will be very silent for MBP

Thanks God you CAN replace it yourself relatively easy, you just need to buy a screwdriver set for that.

If you have a regular click noise from your laptop HDD there was a software somewhere on this forum which could fix that easily..

They actually offered me to change tha hard drive at the Apple care, but I want to tell them a good/better brand of hard drive to try. So WD should be a better one..

Thank God I don't have the click noise, I'm so lucky it may appear with the new hard drive!

thanks for your advice

WD, worst drives you could possibly choose for use in a Mac

hy everyone

i am in the ame boat as you all

already opened up a separate thread but didnt get much insight

then came across your thread and saw lots of contrasting opinions around the same issue

I have the 13" 2.9Ghz model (mid 2012). I've only had it for over a month, but the 750GB drive is also making the same sound

it s been attributed to the recent crop of hdds and its higher capacity than the prevous models

i dunno if its a case but i would love to know if there were any changes so far

Hello everyone,

I installed a TOSHIBA MK5055GSX 500 GB hard drive (replacing my OEM Fujitsu drive) in my mbp mid 2009 and I am also hearing a fan like noise that people have mentioned. I have tried other higher capacity 5400 rpm drives and have heard the noise as well.

I think I may be in the SSD market to solve this issue. I think this is an affordable and fast drive that may help.

Samsung 840 250 gb

My Dear all

after a long claim process with Apple I got my Hard Drive replaced, and guess what? They replaced with exactly the same model Toshiba Mk5065gsxf 500GB, and the noise is exactly the same as it was before.

I asked if they could replace it with one of a different brand, or model, and they said it's a question of luck as it depends what Apple warehouse send out as a replecament.

I'm also getting suspicious they maybe they haven't really replaced it as I can't chek anywehre the serial number..

But, as many of you, I just feel exausted of the whole issue and disappointed of the MBP noise performance:-(

Hello

I'm in the same situation.

I bought my mbp in septembre 2012. After fews months i had to return the computer because the hard disk was bugged.

At the Apple Store Louvre (paris/ France) they constated the dysfunction and replaced free the hard disk a one month ago. BUT the new hard disk was noisy in the lower right corner. So I returned to the apple store one week later and they said me that the noise it's because 3 times I used time machine before with anothers olders macbooks. so they gave me a process for backup "clean". I made it 2 times and the HD made ever the same noise !

I phoned them, they said me to return a another time, I returned the computer last saturday, they changed the HD a new times and yesterday evenning after test at home, I have exactly the same noise !!

Today, I return to the apple store and they said it 's normal noise ....

I am very disapointed, I like Apple and i 've many apple's products but people at the genius bar in Apple store Louvre paris laght at me.

Do you have any idea for after, i don't know what to do now ?
