Magic Mouse optical laser damaged?

Hello,

Recently I have big problems with my magic mouse. It seems, that the optical laser sensor does not recognize the movements of the mouse. So I can't move the mouse cursor on desktop.

- Clicking and multitouch gestures are working fine.
- Also, the bluetooth connection is stable.
- Furthermore, I think this is no software problem.
- I tested the mouse on bootcamp windows and a new installed mac os. Everywhere the same issue.
- I've tried different surfaces and cleaned the sensor with q-tips, etc. Still nothing happens, when i move the mouse.
- If I touch the sensor in a special way with my finger or an other subject, the mouse cursor jumps in the right under corner of the desktop. But the mouse is not working again.

Very strange:
After one day the mouse worked again and I could used it about 2-3 hours. Then there was the same problem again.

Any suggestions or experiences ?
Thanks

Sounds like you've done a great deal of trouble shooting. The last thing to check is the fit of the batteries. If you're using rechargables then replace them with a set of none rechargables and see if that changes things. Some rechargables don't fit properly at the + terminal end and cause weak connections. This could effect the laser transmitter/sensor since they draw the most power.

The only other symptom like this is caused by USBoverdrive program. If that's installed try removing it.

Thanks for the fast reply,

i've tried rechargeable and 'normal' new batteries. Doesn't solve it.
also i've not installed usb Overdrive Programm

next thing i will try is to open the mouse. ifixit has an great manual
perhaps i can clean the sensor more effectively or see something unusual in some parts of the mouse 😉
