New MacBook Pro early 2011 doesn't play nice with Home Sharing

Just wanted to pass along my experience with a new 17 inch MacBook Pro quad-core. They don't seem to play very well with Home Sharing. Picked mine up at the Apple store on Friday. Set up Saturday, and at first all seemed well. Was able to stream to my Apple TV 2nd gen just fine. Then, later in the day, although the Apple TV could see the name of my iTunes library, it wouldn't connect to it, or sometimes, would report that "There are no movies in this library". I tried every solution I could think of, but no dice.

Apple phone support were great, but couldn't diagnose the problem. They had me do data capture to send to Apple engineering. Took the MacBook back to the Apple Store. The very helpful Genius there was able to reproduce the problem on the store's network with an in-store Apple TV. A replacement maching was offered, and we tested the new machine before I left. Same result. Brand new iTunes library with only 6 songs in it would not stream to Apple TV, and iTunes could not be controlled with other iOS devices. So, refund for now. The folks at the store were really great though, so at least it wasn't a bad experience.

I've notice two other people in the "Using iTunes" forum reporting the same problem. In all cases Airport base stations were the networking equipment being used. I expect if this is a widespread issue, some sort of update will be offered.

My question is, are any other new 2011 MacBook Pro owners having the same issue?

Seems to be working for me after the 10.6.7 update. I can stream from my iphone first try. Great news.

Just installed the 10.6.7 update and can confirm that both Home Sharing and the Remote app are now working perfectly with my iPhone. I have rebooted my MBP a few times just to check. Hopefully this issue is now resolved. Fingers crossed.....

It is fixed. As was stated previously, this is all new hardware, and the fixes were already being worked on.

The 10.6.7 update has fixed the issue, which is great news.

Many thanks Apple for listening to us and responding so quickly. I now finally have the music system I've shelled out so much money for and my old PC can go up in the loft!

Thanks to all those who raised cases with Apple, great work everyone.

Looks like it is fixed here too. Updated to 10.6.7. Logged on, logged off, shut down and can re-connect each time. Very happy.

Even able to stay connected with my old windows pcs.

Working for me as well. Kudos to Apple on the quick turnaround. Sorry I had to "meet," so many of you under negative circumstances but it was great to see the group come together for the great good of the Apple users.

All this feedback is very encouraging so far. I'll be able to test it in an hour and a half. Make sure you're rebooting and restarting itunes multiple times to make sure it's not the typical fix then fail we've come to expect. Will report my results soon.

I updated and am at work and it appears to work everytime I have tried it so far. We shall see at home which is where my Apple TV is to make sure its fine.

Yep. tested for ten times. 10.6.7 fixes the issue.

I can confirm that 10.6.7 fixes the problem for me as well. The IPv4 socket is created and remains open as expected.

Looks like 10.6.7 has finally brought a permanent solution for everybody. After waiting since Feb. 28th I can now mark this thread as "answered". Thanks Apple! Time to reorder my machine.

So it works for me now, too, but with one caveat. When my Airport Extreme's radio mode is set to 802.11n only mode, I have no problem. When it's set to 802.11n (b/g compatible), Home Sharing will load my library, but will only play a few seconds worth of content. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I appologize. I didn't mean to offend anyone or cause a commotion. I definitely understand the frustration. I too use the Remote app (for my stereo system too) and didn't like that it wasn't working. Just downloading OS X 10.6.7 so hopefully it works for me like it has for others.

So I guess I shouldn't be posting yet, because I haven't tested MY MBP... But I did the upgrade, and I anticipate mine will be fixed just like everyone elses...

AND, this is WHY I buy Apple. Really guys, I know I know - we pay that big $$$, BUT what other company would handle this situation in such a timely fashion.

Also, I understand SOME of you have had the issue a bit longer than me... but for my circumstance, I posted my concerns just 4-5 days ago and then BANG - it's fixed.

I'm still an Apple Fanboy.

(Ha, MINE probably won't work when I go test it. 😀 LOL.)
