MacBook Pro 2011 17" hard freeze

Overheat? The fans revved and suddenly I could use nothing but the cursor. Had to hold down the power switch to kill all and then re-power & startup. I wasn't doing anything unusual, but I had 7 apps open and was amid an auto-backup to TimeMachine.

Just a little disillusioned and concerned, wondering if anyone else there has experienced a hard freeze like this.

Hopefully you are correct, but I'd say it's premature to say the update fixes it. There is at least 1 person who has installed the update and continues to have the problem.

Just ran test 1 photo booth plus 8 Yes's in terminal, before it was locking up before the 3rd one.

Fans are kicking in max speed like before but this time no freeze up.

Very pleased 🙂

I C, does that person happened to have done a geekbench test before & after? We'd need to see if apple underclocked the CPU or GPU to confirm.

That one person also has custom RAM install from Newegg that might not be Mac compatible.

I C. I'll wait it out and see if anyone has any updates with this, then probably do it myself to see if apple's taking the easy road here.

Lets hope it also addresses the WiFi latency issues.. Everybody's downloading the update it's slow..

I cannot test it because after I sent it in for repairs they said they wanted to "keep it as an example" or something. I have a new one coming. It left China today and should be here by Wednesday.
