Mar 2, 2011 12:13 PM in response to Stasis88by caryrae,It's the same with the original iPad too no gps in wifi only models. -
Mar 2, 2011 12:17 PM in response to Stasis88by King_Penguin,The original Wifi iPad didn't have GPS either - I guess that including it would have increased its price and prevented it being the same price as the original. -
Mar 2, 2011 1:44 PM in response to Stasis88by romad,I believe that the GPS is part of the same chip module as the 3G radio. -

It's functionality is identical to the original iPad. -
Mar 3, 2011 2:03 AM in response to Stasis88by Aepple,Why put GPS on a WiFi only iPad, at face value it's not a mobile operational device, GPS Apps are available if you have a hotspot cell phone/device. The downside to hotspots is GPS will use a ton of data during your trip, and most people who need GPS will use their cell phone, or a 3G iPad which will allow a larger data allotment.
WiFi only iPads are for stationary use, I use my cell as a hotspot if I need to check my email or use the Internet in a pinch (no wifi available). -
Mar 3, 2011 2:52 AM in response to Dah•veedby snowshine,Hi David
Do you know if GPS is used it will be charged for the services through 3G account?
I do not own an iPad. I very much want the GPS and happy to pay the extra to obtain 3G version but would not likely to use paying 3G access/services to surf my mails or net.
What I want to know: Is GPS access free on a 3G device?

Mar 3, 2011 3:27 AM in response to snowshineby lllaass,I have a 3G iPad and never signed up for the data plan. The GPS works fine. Te GPS uses satellites, not a 3G connection. -
Mar 3, 2011 3:43 AM in response to Stasis88by Ian Parkinson,The WiFi only model can still get a location using WiFi base stations. -
Mar 3, 2011 4:21 AM in response to snowshineby Rudegar,"Hi David
Do you know if GPS is used it will be charged for the services through 3G account?"
3g is a landbased service with antennas located in towers and on buildings
gps is a satellite 1 way receiving connection which can't be charged for by anybody unless America change it and encrypt the signals rendering all gps devices out useless so doubt that will happen
but if you don't have a gps program with offline maps you will be charges for all the maps you download over 3g as you drive -
Mar 3, 2011 6:17 AM in response to lllaassby Glorfindeal,Even though you have no data plan, the 3g still connects to the cellular service and can use assisted gps.

Mar 3, 2011 1:14 PM in response to Wallace Macby deggie,I find no where that it says both have GPS receivers. The WiFi+3G shows "Assisted GPS", the WiFi does not. Can you post a link where it says both of them have GPS receivers?
