Do you do this from the orignial iPad, the new iPad2 or a laptop or desktop machine?
Does it make a difference? I want a smooth transition (I'm not risking an old unlimited account though) and just updating the account info looks simpler than fiddling around with little tools and little cards in a busy household with little kids.

According to AT&T you cannot swap the SIM.
Just back from a 2 week trip to Vietnam. For some strange reason, the ATT int'l data plan is not offered in Vietnam although it is in surrounding countries (Cambodia for example). I just bought local sim cards and put them in my iPad2. Worked great exept for one thing. One of the sim cards I cut down to Micro size was still a tad too big and I had a hard time popping the sim tray out when I left Vietnam.
After I did get it out, I slipped the ATT sim card that came with the unit back in and everything is fine back in the states.
The prices varied on the local cards. The cheapest one was $3.25 and I got about 70 MB out of it. IF the ATT card had worked in Vietnam and I had a plan, the cheapest plan would have been around $25 for 50 MB. I wish I had bought about 2 or 3 more of the cheap sim cards.
I know the following has be rehashed here several times, but a friend that traveled with us had a new IP. I TOLD him about 2 or 3 times to keep the Data Roaming off. Never-the-less, he ran up a bill of over $200 between Cambodia and Vietnam.
YES - you will get Unlimited to 4G if you had unlimited 3G

If you are going to the new ipad 4G swapping SIM did not work for me- swapping will KEEP you at HSPA speeds (4G) but not LTE speeds - keep in mind only few cities have LTE from ATT - see their real LTE maps
But here's what you CAN do.
Goto ATT site :
www.att.com/ipadlanding
edit payment information link...then update the following two fields:
IMEI:
ICCID:
You get this info from the New iPad (4G) selct 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'...
