iPad browser: forced to mobile version of websites

Is this a common annoyance with others? Websites forcing the iPad to a mobile (and sometimes malfunctioning) version of the site?

It has always been an mild annoyance for me, but it seems that just recently something changed with a lot of websites in the past few weeks. Browsing with the iPad is forced to a mobile version, and refuses to go back to desktop version even if that link is available at the bottom of the page. And some websites like Yahoo mail even come up completely blank, even though they show up fine on a PC or even the iPhone browser! Only the iPad browser shows the site blank.

This makes me think that some common update to web server software may be the culprit?(Apache?) Maybe it was updated to "help" by making iPad browser go to mobile site by default, but is actually causing problems instead.
Is there a way to change the default browser from identifying itself as iPad or mobile browser?

Thanks for the suggestion Christ CA, but it shouldn't be necessary. Why should I be forced to use an app when I want to use the browser.?

Why is the choice taken away from me?

You are not forced to use anything and the choice is not taken from you.

Having the app increases your choice.

As it happens I do have the Twitter app and find it rather poor compared to theTwittelator app.

Then send comments/suggestions to Twitter to improve it.

I am a little surprised that some people don't understand this concept, and are actually defending against it. But I can see that they have not experienced the frustration.

The solution is not for twitter to fix their website, no thats just apart of the problem. Since so many websites have implimented their mobile sites, while not giving us the choice to use it. So yes we are forced to use their mobile versions. Now sometimes these sites are good and give us the choice. I will admit that sometimes I like them, and other times I want their full site.

But the other issues is that apple designed and advertised their products to view the web in its full glory "minus flash, which is not in question here" But to be used and viewed as it would on a deskop.

Allow it would be really simple for apple to provide this feature to use, and allow use to bypass the websites that force their mobile versions upon us.

For example Pandora.com Now before someone says theirs an app for that, or that you can't or would not listen to their music through mobile safari. Well Thats just not the point, some times we need to access other features that would not be restricted by out browser but we are not allowed to utilize because these websites think we don't need them.

So if you would like to send comments/suggestions to all the websites that do this, Get started its gonna take you awhile. Or apple makes the point and websites actually take it in to account when they produce their websites. meanwhile apple provides us a simple elegant solution to access these websites how we feel its best.

1. pandora.com

2. chase banks website, resetting an online password unless your on a computer.

3. No zoom on mobile websites,

4. ebays website sometimes forgets ur on a mobile, and you end up switching back n forth

5. Sometimes mobile apps do not show the whole website, and limit your access to content.

Thats off the top of my head, and again theres apps for most. But there are times where you need full access.

I have tried a few different alt browsers, but your right its less than ideal. We are not able to set a different browser as a default. So we would then need to copy and paste to the next browser reenter our credentials, and hope it works.

At best these are work arounds,

I have a solution that works for me and my phone. Although I dont recommend it but for those capable. Since I dont know if its allowed to mention it here I will not but involves "Breaking out of jail persay" Its not the best solution.

Although has allowed me to fix what apple sees best for me but is not.

No, this is not a free forum for everyone to voice their opinions. It is an Apple, Inc. site for user-to-user technical support. Is there a particular reason you want to address a post that someone made 3 years ago that is about something not even relevant with iOS 9? And the person you are responding to hasn't posted in the past 3 months.
