Look for shared libraries option is missing from preferences menu

Hi Gang,

Odd problem - installed iTunes 10.2.0.34 on a machine on my LAN and the Edit > Preferences: Option "Look for shared libraries" is missing from the preferences menu.

See http://www.philusher.com/images/itunespref.png for screen shot.

The parental control to disable Shared Libraries is unchecked so that's probably not the cause.

Any suggestions welcome?

I have wasted a good deal of time trying to work out what is going on and am now of the opinion that the menu item has been removed somewhere after 10.1.2.17.

Cheers ... Phil Usher

I have the same problem. I have a MacBook Pro, iMac, and Apple TV. Apple TV can see Laptop. Nobody can see the iMac's shared library (could a while ago, cannot now). The iMac cannot see the laptop's library, although the Apple TV can.

This seems to argue for some problem with the network connection for sharing on the iMac, but it has none of the problems Apple mentions (no firewall, etc.).

Is there any chance that having multiple active users on the iMac could cause this to fail?

Strikes me that Apple's approach, and attitude, to this whole thing is really poor.

I have / had / have the same problem.

- Running iTunes 10.7.0.21 on a laptop and standard PC, both running Win 7 (one Home, one Pro)

- Also have a Synology NAS on my LAN running iTunes Server, the music from which I can get to with my Sonos, iPad and iPhone without a problem

- Yesterday the Shared option in iTunes on the laptop showing the NAS server appeared, without a problem

- Today it disappeared from the laptop - No "Shared" option in iTunes at all. Nothing changed. Tried all switches / options / settings / rebooting. No joy.

- Fired up the PC. iTunes Share from the Laptop appears there, but the NAS server doesn't.

- Suddenly the Share, NAS server and the PC share appeared on the laptop.

Ridiculous.

Apple - get your act together.
