TRIM support on MacBook Air (late 2010)

This is a USER support forum. We do not know what Apple plans to do for updates to OS X. All we know is that the latest version of 10.6.6 on the new MacBook Pros supports TRIM support for those models only, and OS X 10.7 will support TRIM fully.

No one knows what Apple will do about TRIM support, but I will say don’t hold your breath for now or the near future.

If you need SSD then get OWC SSD like I use, as it looks after the trash collection by itself does not need the OS input.

Unfortunately, you don't get to pick the manufacturer of the SSD in an Air. Only a very few third party companies currently make compatible SSDs for the current Air.

Yes, they do make them. But that means just tossing out the one that comes with the Air. That would be a fairly drastic step just for TRIM support. If the original poster had intended on getting a larger SSD anyway... then that would be the way to go... but if they were already satisfied with the capacity of their SSD, replacing it just for TRIM support wouldn't make much sense.

I recently bought an MacBook Pro 13" (2011) running OS X 10.6.6 10J3210. I decided it was not right for me and exchanged it for a MacBook Air 11". I did not want to reconfigure everything so I Carbon Copy Cloned the OS to the Air. TRIM is enabled in this build. I'd bet 10.6.7 will include it for all models that have an Apple SSD

Trim is not needed for Apple SSD's as it is for Windows machines. Apple engineered the drive controller differently. To prove the point MacWorld magazine ran the Air through and intense battery of tests reading and writing to the drive 10,000 times and in the end the tests proved the drive had lost no capacity and it was every bit as fast at reading and writing as a new one.

I upgraded my Air to 10.6.7 build 10J869 (latest beta) and i can confirm that it did not enable TRIM on my laptop.
